If the need new loot apply to raiding only time today goodbye to raiding and and say hello to m+. Not only is m+ shorter and requires less time now I don’t have to have to someone roll need on a item that’s is not an upgrade to them. But simply they roll need just coz they can…
What about class with multiple spec like a druid so now they can roll on agility and int trinkets and weapons even though say they were a moonkin in raid but since they have 2 spec that use agility gear?
Considering I plan on becoming a Preservation Evoker main forever I get the joy of competing with everyone whos trying out the new class and Hunters which are among the most popular DPS classes due to their simplicity for at least the first season so “yay”
Unless you were a mythic raider, you were probably better off if you could do 15s in mythic+ anyways. That allows you to unlock full upgrades, get end of instance loot on par with the heroic raid and a weekly vault with mythic tier options. Not to mention being able to target farm items you needed.
These two situations are only comparable if the PL system works like Roll for item > Roll for receiver – i.e., if it chooses a tank spec item, then chooses from players with tank spec loot chosen. If it works the other way – Roll for receiver > Roll for item in which you were gonna get a piece of loot either way, and then it decided what loot based on your chosen loot spec – then you didn’t “steal” a tank item from anyone under the PL system. You just chose what loot you wanted, after already winning the opportunity to receive loot.
In this new system, the loot that drops is the loot that drops, for everyone in the raid. Then everyone in the raid who can use that loot gets to pick ‘need’ or ‘greed’, at which point, yeah you could ‘need’ for off-spec items and in that case it’s much more of a “you took it from someone” situation if another person was rolling ‘need’ for their main spec.
I fully expect that they’ll change end of dungeon drops to work the same way where you get any 2 random items off the boss loot table regardless of your party comp. Why not? It’ll slow gearing down immensely and bring back that “good old day” vibe they clearly are aiming for.
So the end result is the same, but people get upset because they feel entitled to an item because it’s the spec they are actively in the raid as?
I guess I can see that.
I do think there should be an option for PL vs GL.
The one thing I hate about PL though is that it encourages class/armor stacking, which I feel is the complete opposite of how a gearing system should work. It should encourage a variety of classes not stack the same ones for better loot.
That and it’s caused necks/rings to drop at an extremely high rate because they are on everyone’s loot table.
