A lot of people give me flak for actually thinking the Devourers were a fun villain.
I’ve always been kind a fan of beings like this be it the Tyranid from 40k (My main army), the Zerg from Starcraft or even Species 8742 from Star Trek.
I found them kind of fun and I wish Blizzard did more with them.
Thinking about fighting an unending army of beasts that can basically eat anything and live in the space between reality is kind of both terrifying and almost Cthulhu-Mythos in a way.

I don’t think they’ll be going away for too long.

Yeah, it feels like there is a story left untold there for us to explore in the future.

I’m genuinely shocked y’all are cool with it, GD tends to be kind of pedantic XD
That’s what I’m thinking. Blizzard introduced a threat that even the Shadowlands had issues containing, something that’s probably linked to the void or void lords or whatever is out there. So, I think they’ll be back as a bigger feature of an expansion.

By Who? Nobody gives people flak for that
I want to know why I can skin them in Korthia but not Zerith Mortis. They’re the same devourers.

There’s nothing inherently wrong with going cosmic imo.
The problem is when you try to keep plot points mysterious for 6 years straight, acting like we’ll learn more in “next week’s episode” when we only get 2 episodes per year at most.
That and EVERYTHING being robots. Fel, light, death who gives a ****, they are all robots that act in the same way. Order, death and hell, even disorder from what we have seen are similarly ordered. It all feels unspeakably meaningless.
BUT, a cool story could have been told.

The Devourers were apparently protectors of the realms, according to a Zereth Mortis questline.
I have no doubts they’ll explore how they got corrupted in the future.

I don’t give them a second thought. There isn’t something I care about less than the devourers in shadowlands. But this is probably because I don’t even care about the shadowlands. We won’t be in the realms for long so who cares if they eat it all up after we are done and back on Azeroth? Not my problem honestly. They would probably be more appealing anywhere else though.
…you do know Azeroth is in one the realms, right? The Great Dark Beyond. For all intents and purposes, it’s the realm of order, with the twisting nether being the realm of disorder. (Though it’s been implied there’s actual Order/Disorder planes, GDB and TN are treated as them most of the time in the story)
Which means the Devourers will likely show up on Azeroth at some point.

Yes, I was talking about the shadowlands realms. My point is that they haven’t showed up or done anything to us so I won’t care until they do. I’m totally apathetic to the shadowlands problems, the only reason we were really even there to begin with is to deal with sylvanas and the fact that when we die everyone goes to hell.

I like tyranids and zerg, but devourers felt nothing like them. They’re never in overly large groups, they just randomly pop out of portals, there’s only a handful of variants and half of them are big bulky brutes that are annoying to fight. The standard one with the AoE slam that heals is particularly annoying to fight as Demo because if they get the slam off on top of my imps they steal health from all of them, healing for a massive chunk.
To top it all off, they’re basically everywhere, in every zone, with little to no lore and little to no story impact. They’re a waste of space that could have been used for something more interesting. Like, say for example, the Drust, which just got completely dropped in an extremely abrupt and anticlimactic story conclusion for Night Fae, or more Bwonsamdi and Muehzala content, or more involvement with Denathrius, or actually using that space on Jailer story beats so that we might have actually learned more about him and maybe even actually came to find him and the mawsworn to be actual threats.
They’re, quite frankly, even worse than the Gorm and I will be glad to see the last of them, and I hope they don’t come back… but they will because it’s pretty obvious that they are what is to come as warned by zovaal
