Goldthorn Tea sells for over 10000?

I’m looking at crafting professions to see if I can generate enough gold for wow tokens without spending huge amounts of time on it. When I look at Cooking, I see things like Goldthorn Tea selling for 10000 or more gold. Why are people paying these prices for low level consumables? I’m just baffled.

People listing =/= people buying.

Actually I made a program to download the Blizzard API data. I am assuming that auctions which disappear from live listings with time left as VERY LONG are sold. From what I see, Goldthorn Tea is selling at huge prices on every realm.

Well there’s your problem. Cancel scanning is the lifeblood of the AH goblins.

That’s very interesting. Please educate me - what is cancel scanning and how does making and cancelling listings of Goldthorn Tea help the AH goblins?

Cancel scanning is generally done using an addon to check if any of your auctions have been undercut and immediately cancel them and relist lower. It is primarily useful for high profit / low volume sales like transmog, where getting the sale is more important than the exact margin.

But there are thousands of things to sell in WoW and a lot of less sophisticated users just use a one size fits all strategy and cancel scan everything. They are probably losing gold on a lot of specific items but the automation and all-market approach means they are still making gold overall so they don’t mess with a good thing. You can only play so many hours a day and the human mind can only focus on so much.

That means at the edges though you get weird consequences. I don’t think there is anything special about Goldthorn Tea specifically. There is a second tier of goblins who know what the typical goblin is doing and works to prey on them. Messing up averages and data stores. Maybe he can sell that goblin a Goldthorn Tea for 1k gold by convincing him they are normally worth 10k. Maybe by canceling the sale periodically he can convince a data store that it is selling for that.

I thought about this some more and I suspect now that this is actually something else entirely. This is probably GT being used as a mechanism to transfer gold cross server using the new region-wide AH.

GT is a commodity so is regionwide. But you need something that nobody normally lists because you need to be able to buy the expensive listing on the other end, and the AH forces you to buy the cheapest. So, you make sure there are no cheap GT listings, list GT at a stupid price, and have your second account or friend buy it on the other server - gold transferred at minimal cost.

My guy gets it. You have to have a friend or a second account as you cannot buy your own auctions from an alt. Buy yeah its the new way to move millions of gold from 1 server to another. Allot quicker and easier than the pet method we use to have to do

Thanks.

So my existing system of marking auctions that end while having VERY LONG duration will be usually correct?
