To give background I have leveled to 60 on softcore wow 5 times on all different servers at different times.
Nightslayer is currently by far the realm that has the most active boosting, gold selling and botting in Classic wow. Boosting isn’t an actionable offense but is heavily influenced by gold selling and botting. Nightslayer’s entire economy is based off of buying or acquiring bought gold and for many players is too inconsistent to farm world resources due to the constant competition(bots and players). This makes it so that WoW (a subscription based game) feels as if it has a “premium” option with buying gold. For reference, if you bought gold during leveling you get the option to boost/buy expensive gear. This DRASTICALLY changes the leveling experience being one of depravity to grandeur. At max level it is making it so players gold acquisition is based off of an inflated market/Botting making everything incredibly expensive.
After thought - Seems like a play for the token. they are allowing the problems to subsist and therefore making a plausibility for a solution that they wanted the entire time. just good business ig.
I know you were trying to make a point about botting but can we not call regular wow softcore? Sheesh
Have you ever heard of a paragraph?
Is this not the case on other servers?
1st post since 2010. I put it in the format when writing it but when i possted it changed.
Yes it is. Im just talking about Nightslayer right now since that what i have been playing and can speak on with 1st hand experience.
saying it’s “the norm” is underselling it dude it’s like, expected and encouraged lol
First of all, softcore? Lmao.
Second, the way you described gold is exactly the way currency works in pretty much any economic context. It tends to be the case, in any economy, that the more currency you have the more access you have to “premium” features.
Third, I’d invite you to consider the demand aspect of the economy, for boosting and consumables in particular. How many players are on Nightslayer compared to Dreamscythe? Do you think this discrepancy would contribute to prices?
As for your side note, in 2025 I think it is naive to believe blizzard will do anything substantial about gold buying or botting. It could be a play for the token but by and large I believe they think if they cracked down on these two things, less overall subscriptions would exist which is why they let it persist.
It seems that every problem that you would see on other servers is just exacerbated and highlighted by Nightslayers sheer size
Ok but like, who asked?
I haven’t had enough coffee to deal with you yet, please hold
You need at least 5k posts to talk to me like that.
But but but… guysss… everyone told me if you ban GDKP’s it would solve the RMT market and the botting problems cause demand wouldn’t be there to buy illicit gold!
want to stop gold selling? Just turn r14 on now, put in the TBC mark system, and add nax rated weapons when phase 6 drops
nuh uh, they only said it would slightly reduce the RMT problem ok
Yo that’s fr crazy but I don’t remember asking
this is the normal from a decade or even more.
-bots swarm any online game if people in that game are buying gold.
-people buy gold because that save huge amount of time.
for wow anniv atm choosing between (farm the whole day for 1k gold OR pay ~15$ to buy 1k gold? ofc they will pay the 15$ because the vale of their time is more important)
this logic falls apart when you realize, uh, dude, it’s a game. you’re always wasting time and now, you’re wasting money as well
ofc in the game you might consider it waste of time but while you’re inside the game there is difference between
“mindlessly killing mobs or running around to mine/herb just to get gold for w/e use u want it for”
“enjoying your time while doing pvp or having fun doing some pve with friends”
people want to login in their spare time to play the game if pve/pvp…no one would want to login to farm, so they simply buy the gold to use the login time for w/e they want instead of just mindlessly farming.
Most people playing mmos aren’t adolescents anymore (not in age anyway) and because wow is all about the minmax, farming gold inside of the game is inefficient, you get less out of it than if you worked an hour then bought gold.
The players caused this, all of it is player driven, the fact that people get multiple chances having been caught rmting just makes people rmt more and more until they either get bored of the game or have enough gold to play the rest of the server’s cycle without buying more, knowing that if they are ever caught its going to be a slap on the wrist.
They need punishments that people fear that aren’t perm bans because they clearly won’t do that, caught rmting? your viskag turned into a thrash blade, your qsr turned into a blackstone ring, you get the point
