Now and then I get asked about how to make gold if you aren’t into heavy duty gold farming, don’t have the time or just don’t know which videos out there in youtube land are actually worth the effort. Since a lot of those videos are very much dependant on server prices and dates they are made, I thought I’d list some stuff I’ve picked up along the way that aren’t all that dependant on time and location factors.
Archaeology is a bit time consuming most of the time but there are things you can do that are relatively quick and can make some good gold. For example, in Legion the rotational archaeology quests – a fab commenter of wowhead put up the following list of dates during which these quests appear.
Crystalline Eye - February 24, 2021 - March 9, 2021
Starlight Beacon - Mar 10, 2021 - March 23, 2021
Spear of Rethu - March 24, 2021 - April 6, 2021
Crown Jewels - April 7, 2021 - April 20, 2021
Imp Generator - Apr 21, 2021 - May 4, 2021
Black Rook Key - May 5, 2021 - May 18, 2021
Wyrmyn Tunkins - May 19, 2021 - June 1, 2021
Shard of Sciallax - June 2, 2021 - June 15, 2021
Prizerock Neckband - Jun 16, 2021 - June 29, 2021
Blood of Young Mannoroth - June 30, 2021 - July 13, 2021
Key to Nar’thalas - Academy July 14, 2021 - July 27, 2021
Purple Hills - Jul 28, 2021 - August 10, 2021
Spirit of Eche’ro - August 11, 2021 - August 24, 2021
Most of these aren’t tradeable, however Wyrmy Tunkins is a nice battle pet and can be sold for a very decent price on most servers. The Spirit of Eche’ro is a spirit moose mount, and the Spear of Rethu is an heirloom weapon. So right now you can go do the Crown Jewels one which awards an item that vendors for 5000g (at least it did when I did it back in Legion).
Archaeology can also gain you valuable toys and pets including things like the Crawling Claw or the Restored Revenant.
One of its best drops is for the Alchemist who can find the Vial of the Sands, which is used to make the gorgeous Sandstone drake that turns you into a drake that you can use to ferry a friend around. With the ability to turn in acheology boxes for upgrades to the various dig types, you can find this item a lot faster than was once possible.
Archaeology also provides many toys and unique gear items. Check out wowhead or other sites for tips and check on theunderminejournal.com to see the prices of tradeable items on your server.
Shadowlands has disappointingly not carried on this tradition of making this profession more fun and enjoyable. Given the ancient nature of the Shadowlands, I believe it was a lost opportunity. Let’s hope they do a better job next time.
I hope this gives some of you ideas on making use of this profession or fun and profit, and will do others if it’s ok.
