While I am using the current topic of the AH mount to springboard this, it isn’t actually the focus of the thread. It is also a topic I feel I won’t be properly able to convey but will try to anyway…
I have never really been able to see the difference between real world money and gold since the token came out, and I don’t really understand how people manage to. The current ah mount is cheaper than the old ah mount, the only difference as far as I can see is how it is presented.
WoW isn’t a cheap game, it is arguably one of the most expensive mmos. To fully enchant your gear properly is still close to 15$ usd. Does showing a different currency really alter that much from it just being plainly displayed in usd?
Since the token, I’ve seen each gold sink as though it was posted for the amount of usd it was worth. The amount of backlash now nearly a decade later doesn’t really make sense to me. Nor is it coming from people I would expect it to. I’ve seen people who cheer the increasing costs to gearing as a good thing now balking at another gold/usd sink.
Isn’t this what they wanted? Increasing costs to play the game?
Yea, WoW’s fake gold is prolly more bountiful than what we allegedly have in fort knox, which I read they are converting into those refurbished high end condos because they seem to have found a lot of free space.
MUCH cheaper…1/5 to 1/8 the price depending on when one bought the first one and the token price at the time.
I prefer they did it this way because I HATE buying tokens to get gold for this kind of thing.
Im gonna pay cash one way or another anyway…Im not spending my in game gold …thats for in game AHing…lol.
Being able to pay cash made it VERY convenient.
And those who WANT to farm the gold…still can.
There are some names here I didnt expect to be so insulting and belligerent over this…and some names ive ignored previously over behavior in here who are being quite rational about it.
Everyone has different views on everything.
Take the Btag thing…some of the folks I ignore over that one end up agreeing 100% on some other issue.
Feels like Im talking to a certain family member in here some days lol.
Changes her opinion on a topic at least weekly and very much depends on her mood. Shes anti gun today…and pro gun three days from now…and its often entirely dependant on how the topic is introduced to her in that moment. lmao.
This forum is like that MOST days with some in here.
I don’t believe the economy ever truly recovered from the inflation brought on by Garrison missions. To make matters worse, the dragonriding WQs caused even more inflation. Tokens did not cause this, but it’s still Blizzard’s fault for giving away so much gold to players.
I didn’t play when garrisons were a thing, but this is exactly what my brother said the other day.
They ruined the economy beyond repair with that expansion and now are just dealing with it the best they can. But there doesn’t seem to be a good fix for it outaide of a massive reset.
Reminds me. I was doing an improv class once and one of the other folks brought in a bagel pizza they made. Like, the bagel they made it on they made themselves and it was literally the size of a medium pizza.
Gold sinks are a potential fix, hence the brutosaur mounts and the limited-time scarab mount last expansion. Unfortunately these reward rich players for being rich and leave casual players feeling alienated. I think gold sinks should never be removed so players can earn them over time.
Not sure what else could or even should change. Players complained for many years about professions being useless, and the result is two expansions in a row during which professions are necessary for player progression. Leveling a profession is an expensive undertaking, so that’s why crafts list for so much on the AH.
I agree with you on your point, but if these items were not removed to create scarcity, rarity then people would complain what’s the point. I want that unique car with that unique paint job to show off, and if everyone can have that (afford it) then it isn’t rare anymore.
Most are just whale purchases… I’ve a massive amount of gold but I exist as a very small minority most players either can’t generate that level of gold or require massive amounts of time to.
