Hey Blizz, I have a question, and a request. Is there any plans to make gold account bound? I have recently switched from ally to horde. Leaving behind 160k gold because I was not interested in transferring. If it’s not in talk or in the works. PLLLEASSEEE CONSIDER THIS! Please PLEASE! I think this is something more than a few people in the community would like to see come to the game.
It won’t happen, server economies would crumble, AH would be a mess, no thank you.
As long as server economies are separate this can’t happen for a plethora of reasons that have been discussed ad nauseum here.
Tokens are about as far as it will go. There’s some conversion cost, but it’s possible to use them to transfer some gold.
In today’s wow 160k is really not that big a deal to make my friend. Even without the AH you can make that in a single week.
Not sure how Gadgetzan works now but I know you could use it to transfer before by listing an item on a character from one faction and buying it with the character you want to transfer from.
Granted, now with how the AH works now, you would need to list an item that isn’t listed by anyone else… but that was how it was done back in the day at least.
(edit-swapped from to to from)
Thanks y’all for your input. I didn’t take server economies into consideration.
Neutral Auction Houses ceased to exist, and have been rolled into the servers AH. This happened back in WoD.
Edit: matter of fact, alliance and horde are supposed to share the same listings on the same server.
Ahh! Didn’t know that had happened but good to know. Thanks.
Would be nice to have more “bind to account” items, however. Even if it was just general gear. If I have some nice gear on an Alliance hunter, for example, that she levels out of, being able to send it over to a newly created horde hunter would be great.
Though I don’t understand why people think “economies would collapse” if gold was account bound instead of character bound. SWtOR and ESO both allow you to have shared storage across all toons regardless of faction and those economies manage fine (though ESO has a very different set-up with their guild traders instead of a AH).
You can use tokens to transfer gold across factions, with less than 100% efficiency.
I don’t think it should be account bound, would mess up the economy. Now Server wide would not hurt anything since horde and alliance use the same auction house.
You can still make it work with a friend on any AH though. Post any item on your alt for 100k. On your main, give 100k to a friend to buy the item. Your alt gets 95k (5% AH cut). You do it with a friend because the game won’t let you buy your own auctions.
If you need to transfer gold across servers, then the next best thing is to buy a variety of mounts with a relatively constant value (Sandstone Drakes, Sky Golems, etc.) before moving, and slowly sell them back on your destination server. If you plan this right, buying low and selling high, you can even make a profit sometimes.
I’d love for guild to be account bound. Much less work shifting it all around.
thats precisely what heirloom gear is.
because a sudden implementation causes severe instability, very different from a game that started that way.
You can do sudden infusions with lots of gold as it is. All that needs to be done is loading a character with gold before transferring, and before that was possible, I used to do things like give a friend 10k gold on their Alliance character in exchange for them sending me 10k on my Horde.
And that’s not including being able to just purchase gold and dump it into the economy.
what OP is asking for is on a vastly greater level. 10k isn’t even comparable to pennies the scale of havoc this would cause to the WoW economy, even if only temporary.
I used 10k as an example. It could be any amount of money.
If I wanted to I could send all the gold I have on Sargeras to one character, faction and transfer servers, and bring all of that to my tiny Horde realm. The only difference between what can happen now and what the OP is asking for is that Blizzard gets paid whenever there’s a large movement of gold.
Yep, those are all well known methods to work the system.
You can also do Token shuffles to bring gold to another server, but the conversion is costly. It all depends how badly you want the gold transferred.
Right now token is around 118k. That means you could turn 238k into $30 bnet balance, then go to the desired server and use $20 to buy a token and get 118k on that server and still have $10 of balance left for another token or anything else.
Alternatively, an even better deal would be to use gold to pay the character transfer and bring the gold with it.
If they’re on the same server you can sell something on the AH on your horde for the gold you want to transfer, than buy it on your alliance character. I’d recommend a pet, since they are account bound and cageable.
Maybe if they made it server bound but across both factions. Or even across one faction.
You mean if all you do is try to make gold every second you play, on all of your alts, and flipping AH items too? Doesn’t seem reasonable, this isn’t WoD.
Spare me the people who chime in and say they did it, I get it, some people can and will, but most players, even players who try making gold, don’t JUST play to make gold.
