Going to introduce my girlfriend to her first mmorpg

Im easing her into video games by playing life is strange with her.

I want her to play mmo’s with me.

My question is what do yall best mmorpg to introduce her to the genre, here’s the options.

  1. Retail wow, level 1
  2. Elder scrolls online.
  3. Wait for classic wow??

The games she plays before she met me is pokemon go, animal crossing and sims

The new player experience for modern wow is god awful. I’d recommend waiting for classic wow or perhaps ffxiv.

I would play the trial of WoW. It’s very noob friendly. Good luck! Having a SO that plays is the best!

I’d say retail. It’s really streamlined and simplified. Won’t be too intimidating and completely nerdtacular to her.

Retail starter free edition level 1-20. That’s how I got hooked.

This is WoW GCD. You already know what we will suggest: ESO

Current WoW is a good starting point, but a lot of other MMO’s have better introductions.

I would suggest just picking one both of you like and rolling with it, assuming you will be playing together initially.

One exception is probably Classic WoW, coming from a background of mostly casual games, diving into Classic would probably turn her off really quickly. I would say have her try that after dipping her toes into some more modern MMO’s.

if you think a real mmorpg might be too complex then introduce her to BfA. If you think she wants to play an actual mmorpg where she’ll be able to build and progress her character with a little complexity then head over to eso.

And the classic experience is worse.

FFxiv is perfect if she’s into story driven progression. Toe dipping would be retail wow with all the quality of life features to hold her hand through it.

Absolutely would not recommend classic due to its run around aimlessly until you find what you’re looking for system. Once you learn everything it’s great, but for a brand spanking new player to the genre I’d have to advise against it as it could have a pretty negative impact on how she views mmo’s.

Most modern gamers would find classics style of play terribly boring and slow. So ease her into that one if she shows interest later after playing a few.

Feelings are serious business around here, the only thing to do if you don’t agree with someone is to abuse the flagging system since nobody gets in trouble for it anyway.

I’d choose the mmorpg that you love the most.

But. Most importantly - do have at least some idea how she tackles new things and let her apply that process to the game! I’ve seen many a game ruined by players more familiar with it rushing a player new to it through things.

Set time aside to play with her, and let her set the pace. Set time aside for her to play by herself while you play something else that you can answer questions while you play.

If you can’t isolate her from the potentially negative aspects of random groups, then go into that stuff with her, and let the group know she is new to mmorpgs and/or gaming. Once people have their expectations in line, they are usually friendly.

I hope she likes it!

A shill is a Shill, even a Troll Shill.

Imagine feeling so threatened by another MMO that you abuse the report system on people that mention it here, even in a thread where it’s appropriate to mention it.

Imagine feeling so threatened and triggered on a video game forum that they actually run out of reports each day and the system stops them from being able to abuse it until tomorrow.

Classic is so much more harder … retail you just follow the Arrow and the quest is done . No getting lost .

Wow was my introduction to mmorpg’s. A friend convinced me to try it out. I had a lot of fun learning about Azeroth and my friend had a lot of fun watching me fall off of things, saving me when I got ganked (we were on a PVP server), and introducing me to the game.

I highly recommend it. I know this xpac is terrible, however the starting zones are not.
