Going into wotlk with the current server landscape?

The current status quo is a reflection of people actually wanting to play the game.

Certainly, but it could have been handled MUCH more delicately if Blizzard didn’t start with transfers as their go-to method. Prudent use of realm connections could have likely avoided the current, disastrous state of the realms and resulted in more numerous, healthy-populated ones. There is blame on both parties: Blizzard for not taking any alternate approach and the playerbase for accepting transfers as a viable solution in the first place.

100% agree. It’s far too late to fix things without drastically changing the landscape. Like keep all these servers as TBC and roll new servers that people would have to transfer to, but with caps in place so the mega-servers would be dismantled. It would be such a horrible solution that I’d never actually advocate for it.

The real solution is to either merge (a really bad solution) the small servers into mega-servers or just add RDF to at least all of the small servers so they can at least pool resources together for dungeon runs. You need far less population to have a decent raid scene then you do for a healthy dungeon community.

Well, that would be one way to turn small servers into mega servers lol.

Not really. Everything except time spent inside the dungeon would still be limited to your local server community and resources.

No, i mean, if you only put RDF on the small servers many people would end up flocking to them.

LOL. I missed that and it’s the perfect insight. It would be so true. I can’t believe most people are on mega-servers because they love the overcrowding.

This is precisely why the dungeon-finder tool is not a good solution for the problems faced by players on low population realms. For clarification I’m not arguing that it should or should not be implemented just that the tool itself isn’t a fix for the majority of their problems.

Nah, we’re on big servers just to play, can’t do dungeons and raids that great on low pop.

No, what i’m saying is that there aren’t really any problems with my server (though i would like more people) other than it is basically impossible to get a dungeon run in outside of guild and only during a couple specific hours on a few specific days (weekends has more availability). RDF would be the exact tool to solve that particular problem

I understand what you’re saying and agree that the tool would be an excellent solution for that specific issue. However there may be a disconnect on what the two of us would each consider ā€˜low population’ realms.
