PvP really needs some sort of continuous grind to work towards, that actually feels rewarding. This current system, especially with the pauses in ranking, just encourages you to blitz the rank as fast as possible each phase, and then… there’s just kinda nothing incentivizing pvp from that point on (assuming that PvP gear is even an incentive compared to the massively overtuned PvE set bonuses, but that’s a topic for a different day).
It’s weird to me to put events in the game for PvP during the leveling phases, and do almost nothing for PvP at max level, not even scaling up those old events. We don’t get off set gear with the rankings, so they could easily slap some of those off set PvP gear rewards on vendors for events, and/or have some of those undermine reals crates available via pvp currency.
I very much want to have some reason to PvP, and some reason to log in each day, but the honor grind on two chars at the same time just kinda made me not want to do anything anymore unless it’s rewarded. I think the TBC honor system was much better, as it let you progressively unlock gear, and didn’t force you to blitz through it as fast as possible in fear of getting left behind by obscure cutoffs. It’d also be nice to have some higher quality pvp gear to work towards via rated pvp in some form or another, even though I’m very aware how unbalanced such a thing will be.
As much as I used to enjoy camping lowbies for hours on end for no particular reason, I’ve just been there done that and the fun of shanking people without reward or motivation has just waned for me over time. I’d love to see a better incentive structure added for pvp, instead of just grind grind grind grind, get half of your set, grind grind grind, get the other half. That just doesn’t feel well paced to me. That’s just me though, someone who has played this game way too long for his own good, so it could just be a me problem.

Once you max out honor… you should gain gold. But, only from wins. No throwing games allowed here. =)
Also, there is no reason cosmetic stuff can’t be added for pvp.

What I wouldn’t give to be able to wear my full horde PvP set for my rogue instead of having half dark mantle and bits of bloodfang mixed in.
Likewise what I wouldn’t give to hide every little bit of the hideous alliance PvP rogue set gear to stop it from tainting my pristine appearance. ><
It needs to be something. In wotlk I very much liked the buying gems with honor thing. I thought that worked out very well, allowing us to either gem up cheap, or make a bit of profit. The only problem is that this current honor system really doesn’t have a way to reward baseline honor gains, so such a thing could only be done through events like bgs with tokens.

this 100% being able to farm and do the activity you enjoy would be best. probably help with people whining about the consume meta too.

Yeah, blizzard is F’n up so much. Something as simple as winning x amount of gold per wins would increase bgs big time. Nevermind if they added cosmetic stuff too. But why add cosmetic stuff for free when they can add it on retail and charge IRL money for it.

could also reward a random pack of consumes for winning a bg as well, since pvp is so consume heavy.

Just give me 2g per 3 token turn-in. That’s it. Super simple solution for us who enjoy PVP.
I’d be able to play how I want and still be able to afford basic consumes.
Heck, I’d be okay with getting 1 Real coin per turn-in as well.

Be nice if they had a token vendor that let you pick between gold, a consumes bag, a reals bag, or random mats.
agree but i think gold is a better option because awarding consumes devalues professions and dungeon real runs (which i feel are also a net positive) and i dont wanna harm other playstyles just because they arent my cup of tea type of thing.

We are already playing classic plus. That’s what som and sod are lol. They already made changes to the honor system and its perfectly fine now. If you cant find the time to get the gear then you should not be farming it… Hope you have a great day Fox
This is the beta for it, hence why it’s important to have them correct the issue on the final go around.
The worst iteration of the honor system imaginable, barring maybe the original one, though at least the original one didn’t hold out on the weapons until they were irrelevant.
Already did it, just didn’t enjoy it.
Keep up the A.I. generated responses.

Why would you even engage with him?
Best thing to do is ignore him in hopes he finally understands how useless his input is to any discussion.
People like him are a product of the poor design decisions of SoD devs making bad opinions of bad players feeling validated. It’s frustrating but it is what it is
Anyway, I want to be hopeful that they have realized that ignoring pvp balance and rewards as much as they have is such a massive mistake.
It’s hard to have faith in this dev team for much of anything pvp related, but maybe…

A free bump =p
I want to believe it, but the current state of things would say otherwise sadly.

I think the majority of us agree that the easiest first step to improving PVP is for them to just give us 2 gold per 3 token turn-in, right?
Really feel like we could push for something simple like that as a community and maybe actually get a dev response.

i think, balance concerns aside, having new sets or just pieces of gear in a parallel to pve gear for pvp players would go a long way toward making the game more enjoyable for “pvp only” people.
i do think the part of the playerbase that is “pvp only” is small though and i dont believe it would grow much if the balance considerations werent met properly and clearly (with intent) to make the game much more balanced.
you can add the sets or pieces (enough pieces to nearly fill a players loadout) to the bg rep vendor and rank gear that would scale as the game scales or just after rank 14 coming out make a new set to get with honor or some other progression system or whatever to get the gear.
maybe even making honor a currency or something , i dont know.
but , like i said. without actual balance considerations and a full scope plan on balance (rock paper scissiors or whatever plan you go with) with solid feedback from devs and players alike or even just the devs themselves being a united front with intentional balance structures , the pvp community et large would be diminished to the point of it not really mattering anyways .
edit to add:
moreover if they went with a rock paper scissors approach rock shouldnt complain that paper beats it or is unfair to rock and scissors should expect as a matter of course to stomp on paper and it should be a known commodity if that was intentional.

Plenty of other MMOs have offered pvp gear systems like this, what is the big benefit for doing this in classic+? Rather than pvp players mindlessly slapping on full pvp sets and off-pieces from pvp it’s substantially more interesting to decide between what gear you’ve gained from both sources and make meaningful decisions about what you’re equipping. The problem with SOD pvp gear is the set bonuses don’t offer interesting bonuses, the stats are incredible though.

The new AB meta changed PvP ranking a ton. As someone who did the AV meta on a few toons, AB is actual PvP.
But yes, after you rank up there’s no real reason to go back.
I liked the more balanced rewards to BGs. I think that’s something that retail would honestly benefit from. It’s a shame the win trade meta kinda wrecked all that because the original rework wasn’t thought out well enough, and by the time they implemented the more solid version I had just about finished the grind already.
