Going AFK for IRL stuff

Ok, so, I’m going to make this simple. Why do people always kick a person for being AFK just for doing something irl? they have stuff to do outside of the game. Like for example, letting there dog out, helping a family member with groceries, unexpected sudden stuff that only take seconds to a minute at most. Some people are just inpatient.

No excuse. You signed up for a group activity, you make sure you can be there.

If that were the case people would rarely notice you were gone…

Probably on the assumption that if you que up for a dungeon, and are obviously afk, a person waiting 10 minutes in the que can take your spot and instantly replace you and when you come back you can que for another too.

Leeching in a dungeon is just kinda lazy though, like many people don’t care what the damage is, but just seeing someone in it at least moving and autoshotting is enough.

Because a lot of people only focus on end game content rather then trying to build friendships in game unfortunately

There are 19 other people waiting, you can just do it later when you have the time - might be one valid form of reasoning.

be on hunter
enter type /follow.

Autoattack big hp boss

be hunter
Deal 60% of damage from autoshot autoattack
afk

Thank you, FINALLY someone seeing it through my eyes

Players don’t go in an instance to make friends. This is not hello kitty online adventure.

I dunno maybe they’ll fail that +8 key or whatever.

I would disagree with that assessment. There are a lot of people that are here to play the game and make friends. However, it’s a poor first impression for someone you have never met to step away from the game and make others wait. If you would like respect returned, provide respect to the other people. Respect their time as well, rather than expecting someone to wait for you.

Emergencies happen, but daily tasks like letting out the dog or going to the restroom can be done BEFORE you group with other people.

I don’t get it either. I was AFK for 30 seconds at the start of a WCM (it was on NORMAL), and apparently the people kept trying to kick my alt even though I wasn’t AFK anymore. Was on a DH, so it wasn’t like it took me any lengthy amount of time to reach the combat going on. Did top DPS on the Sisters boss, then boom kicked.

Strange. I didn’t know rational understanding and common human decency was likened to being a 5 year old.

An instanced activity in WoW is prone to stress. You need to make sure you’re on your A game and contributing to the said activity. It’s just basic human decency. If you’re expecting to go in the instance and just expect everyone to carry you while you’re AFK, then yes, by all means go to hello kitty.

A guild raid, where we are all going to be there for hours, no problem. Take your break, deal with your emergency. We will fight trash to the next boss and sit you if you’re not back by then.

A random dungeon with random people, though? Depends on the group. Some are patient and will let you stay. Some will kick or ask you to drop.

An unexpected knock on the door or pizza delivery, most people will wait for that and not kick. But “brb have to help mom with chores” is a boot to the booty. Because no chores take just one minute.

When you enter an instance, it’s a commitment that you’re going to be there for it. LFR is in wings so that it shouldn’t be long and M+ have timers to succeed. If you’re pugging and you’re endangering someone else’s key, you deserve to be booted.

In LFR, enough people use it as a means for free loot by going AFK it killing themselves at the start of the fight that people are not happy when people do it.

Making friends can happen in this game, I’ve made quite a few this expansion. But respect begets respect. You have to respect that others want to do stuff at a certain time when you’re joining a group of randoms. They owe you nothing.

It’s basically a complete lack of respect. So expect to be kicked.

Do you tell them that you need a minute and you will brb? Or do you just go afk without warning? And how long are you gone for? I find most groups are pretty accommodating if you have to get up for only a moment.

Most people wont kick you if its seconds to a minute. If it’s much longer than that though you are holding up a group to wait on you because of sloppy planning on your part. Its rude.

If I join a group I know I have time to do what I joined up for. If something forced me to afk then I have no problem being kicked since this is a game and if I leave it what ever I left for is obviously more important. Honestly, why would you unexpectedly need to let your dog out? I have a dog, it goes out between what I’m doing since I’m able to use common sense…

If you are in a dungeon, let people know. I’ve never seen someone get kicked for being AFK if they said something first.

If you’re in LFR, don’t tell anyone. I’ve seen lots of ppl kicked “lol it’s funny”. Just go afk if you’re on trash or if it’s the boss, wait until they pull it and then go afk.

If you’re in a PuG raid, I’d go afk on trash and not say anything. I’d say something on bosses or wait until trash again.
