I’m referring to more than just the speed run aspect, as the ‘go go’ mentality and behavior includes WAY more than running full speed. You know this.
It also doesn’t invalidate the rest that I’ve said. Blizzard should move M+ to dedicated lobby servers. Give them proper ‘seasons’, keep the class tweaks restricted to M+ only, and update their affixes. Their crowd would love it. At the same time, renew/combine/re-order the remaining servers into proper PvE, RP and PvP servers, go deep on the MMORPG aspects.
Morpheus, why the HELL are you blue and hoofed?!
…I don’t mind everything else.
Also, gratuitous ‘WOAH’.
This is ABSOLUTELY a problem. And the reason? Random dungeon finder. It is easier to quit the dungeon and join another one than to make your current group work if the tank or healer is new. And, there’s no server community because it’s cross-server so no one cares about being respectful or helpful.
Relatively new player here and that’s one of he reasons I will never do dungeons with a group. I like to explore the area and learn about it, but they go so fast that sometimes, I can’t even loot the mobs without getting behind. If there is a cutscene that I’ve never seen, the group is half way through the dungeon before I’ve finished viewing it
I’ve decided to just not group and do solo only. I’m happy now.
Did you really have fun on the umpteenth badge run? Because I remember dungeons near the end of an expansion being even faster and more meaningless than they are now. There were even fights about stopping to skin or pick up loot.
Tazavesh would have been fun at release if it hadn’t been overtuned and riddled with bugs…
I AM a new person. Im telling you right out in the open. The reason Im in dungeons inst because of ANY of this. It’s because of the gankers. I LOATHE having to do dungeons over and over and over ad nausium because I can get missions done due to the gankers. I enjoy doing missions and learning my character. But Im stuck doing dungeons to get anywhere. When you’re repeat killed, you find other ways to get through. And dooing dungeon is the way to do it.
Talk about speed leveling to get to end game all you want, but Im telling you that it’s as a direct result of getting ganks. I dont want to waste my time only getting one quest per day in most cases and then having to run dungeons. BORING! I’ll take the missions any day. IF I can get to them.
M+ was a bandage on a gaping wound left by Warlords of Draenor. Laser focusing on this single game mode is the reason Blizzard is in the shape it’s in now (legal and social issues notwithstanding).
Actual game progress for Blizzard, would be to design the game with all the RPG aspects and philosophies, which captured pen and paper gamers the world over, WHILE adding/advancing the story and game technology. With what’s been announced so far with Dragonflight, Blizzard may have finally caught on.
I’m willing to bet that several million people who’ve already left the game would disagree with your assessment. I know a ton of currently subbed PvPers who wouldn’t mind. Interestingly enough, I notice you’ve mentioned NOTHING about the M+ servers I’ve mentioned I’d really like for them to get their own playgrounds.
The M+ is a “design” which as been imported from Diablo III (I absolutely played Diablo I, II, III A LOT
The adaptation for WoW seems ok to me, I tried it on WoW, I got bored after few minutes, the game pace is slow, this is so much gear dependent that I don’t even bother about it. That doesn’t mean it’s bad, it’s to slow to keep me grounded and feel the edge of the gears & performances. Many likes it, good for them
The mentality which comes with WoW M+ is the same that comes with Diablo III Greater Rift, there’s some players who’s going to whine, some other cheer, honestly it’s pretty much the same.
What bothers me is that you’re right about being worried, how a new player would feel about a GOFAST? The answers I can give is that I have many friends who used to play Diablo III and left the game precisely because they couldn’t keep in the Greater Rifts, frustration, disappointment, fed up about elitism toxicity.
If we could have a board to queue up that give a little description of how players intend to clear the dungeon, it would be nice for new players. And me as well, it still a daily that I like to do.
Right now it’s like a “surprise” party which have a complete random result.
Toxicity has always been in the game, ever since more than oh…4 people…logged in at the very beginning of Vanilla.
But it went totally off the rails when this M+ bullpuckey was put in to the game. I’m tanking, and ZOMG, I take a route that means we will finish in 15:47:99, instead of 15:47:98! OFF WITH MY HEAD!
The increase in popularity of M+ and the toxicity in the game no matter the mode are directly correlated.
While I’m sure it happens every once in a while, it’s very much not the norm. It’s kind of expected that new people will watch the cutscenes, and the tanks/other party members that pull when someone is in a cutscene are considered the jerks, not the other way around.
Anyway this is the point agree with. The problem isn’t even that people want to “GO FAST” it’s that the player base has also adopted this very toxic and unforgiving culture around mistakes, being slower, or people trying to learn the dungeons.
It’s not even new- In Cata when I started? I was terrified of the troll dungeons. Even watching and reading guides as a brand new player, I would get berated and called all sorts of name for mistakes that really- any new person would make. While i eventually adjusted and got better- most people would just quit.
There’s nothing wrong with working to change the toxic elemental of the GOFAST mentality, and reminding people to be kind and really help new players in dungeons. I do think some of that falls on blizzard, however.
In ffxiv, you’re punished for being rude/mean in groups pretty quickly, and even punished if you quit a group as the first one to leave. However you’re rewarded pretty well for helping first time players and others complete a dungeon/trial/raid.
