Life was good, been subbed for a week now, thought to myself ill download that authenticator in order to write in my premade group listing.
BOOM, no more game, cant access my battlenet account. Get same error message. I am now even locked out of all my battlenet games. Just get a message saying my session has expired everytime I try to get on my battlenet.

i am sorry to hear about your trouble, BUT… that’s a technical issue, not a feature so it should be resolved by technical support.

The fact they gated editing a group listing behind this absolutely useless feature is just a user data grab. Here , attach your phone number to a video game platform account. Because, you know, reasons.

It was used as a way to combat bots making a bunch of sales groups. But from what I understand, it’s easy to get fake phone numbers.

That didn’t work, just punishes regular players. SO they should remove it. I report so many WTS ads daily

is that to prevent the gov’t from spying on you? you’re crazy, the gov’t won’t ever use your phone to listen in on your conversations.
p.s. here’s a cool feature on your phone. it can tell you what song is playing.
i wonder how it does that.

I need to change back to a land line. I have an old cell phone I rarely use but I also have an authenticator so I think I might be screwed there unless there’s a way to remove the authenticator.
Cell phones are just too expensive for what I use it for. I’d rather just have a land line.
No it’s not. First, they did it to stop the bots which were drowning the LFG thing (with a decent amount of success) and, second, two-factor authentication makes your account A LOT more secure. This means less chance someone will hack into the account because a user doesn’t know how to upkeep their online security. Every time Blizzard has to recover some account from a hack, it’s not just time and money out of their pocket, the person they’re trying to help will likely be super loud about how terrible Blizzard is, when the real problem can often be seen by that user looking in the mirror.
I’ve had an authenticator since the instant they were available. I had the physical one first, I had the phone one when my physical one ran out of batteries. I wouldn’t be without one by choice. They are 100% NOT “just a data grab”.
Yes, you can remove the authenticator from a phone.
In this case, I would highly recommend switching to a physical authenticator.
It sounds to me like your authenticaor has become de-synched from your account. That can also be fixed.
And if that fails:
yeah i think once you go to cell you can’t go back. i might be wrong would have to ask customer support. they nice peoples. did you attach an authenticator to it or just add the phone number to the account? if it’s the former I don’t think you can.

I did the authenticator thing to get the extra bag slots. Never had it before and never had problems either.
But it was a dumb thing to do as I’d rather just get rid of the cell phone.
It’s so annoying and needlessly expensive.

This is not correct. You can remove the cell phone authenticator and reattach a keyfob one if you have a keyfob one. Though I do not know if Blizzard still sells the keyfob ones? I can’t find any for sale.
they dont sell them anymore havent in years. there are no plans to continue production. ever. the ones on 3rd party sites are apparently old stock from at best 2017-2018 when they last made them.

Okay, well if I can just get rid of the authenticator that’d be good enough for me.
I don’t use other computers to play this game and no one has access to this one so it should be good enough.
i would ask customer service they can better help you with this. though they might be asleep right now.
