Goblin/Worgen monks - Exiles reach

With the introduction of the new starting zone being placed not only in an unrestricted zone, but also placed in current content/time, there is no longer any reason worgen and goblin remain restricted out of monk. They have both been around since the discovery of pandaria, and have had plenty of time to begin the teachings. Allied races have been able to pick up on these things immediately. Nightborne coming straight from suramar after 10000 years of solitude, Orcs that come from the past, robot gnomes from a hidden mechanized island. Not only have they overcome whatever difficulties would lay between them and becoming monks, they have done it nearly immediately.

Not that it matters since blizz has stated the reason being the starting zones, and Before I get swarmed with ‘worgen can’t control their rage’ comments, or ‘goblins just want money‘
Please hear me out

Monks are not infallible, they have emotions that can get the better of them, even grandmasters such as taran zhu. But all monks seek serenity and to be free of attachment, it is a goal and a philosophy. Worgen seeking the path to free themselves of their rage, goblins seeking the path to free themselves from the cycle of poverty, greed, and violence. These both fit into the philosophy of monks. There already exists a goblin monk in the order hall.

With the introduction of exiles reach goblin are no longer locked in kezan, nor are worgen stuck in gilneas.
There is no doubt that the animations are ready and waiting, as they are all viewable on The model viewer, as well as accessible in game with various morphing effects. Or in goblins case, slapped onto an allied race with the same rig.

So with the introduction of exiles reach, where are the worgen and goblin monks? Will they be overlooked like the rest of the class has been so far in the beta?
I have yet to see an employee comment on the topic since way back when they talked about the starting zones being the issue. Hopefully monks will get some attention and that will change.

I wonder if they’ll just be added at the last moment kind of like how Gnome Hunters were added in Legion. Or maybe they’re trying to figure out a way to make it where if you make a Worgen/Goblin Monk you’re locked to Exile’s Reach as your starting zone, even if you’re a veteran player?

At this point won’t those starting zones be “chromie time” after shadowlands release? I was under the impression the point of introducing that concept was so that they no longer have to be held under that rule of past expansions canon.

One can only hope but if it doesn’t happen I’ll go with the consultation prize of goblin sized worsen with tails.

I feel like vulpera have no charm to them. But I feel that about most allied races that lack establishment in the lore further than the current xpac.

I don’t see why not. A simple fix as stated before is restrict these two combinations to exiles reach.

The worgen heritage armor is all about Genns daughter wantting to become a wrorgen. Which means there are plenty of current time human gil neans who can become infected with the worgen curse. And an underlying them of worgens is learning to control their worgen ferocity, which would be a great reason to study being a monk. Plus a monk werewolf has always been a cool idea

I’ve been advocating for Goblin and Worgen Monks for a long time. (Moreso Goblin, but only because I’m Horde) Even LFD should have Monks available to them. Zealotry doesn’t stop you from becoming a Monk, because even the Scarlet Crusade has Monks in their Ranks.

I’ve always viewed Warriors, Hunters, and Monks as the type of Classes that anyone can learn with enough effort, which is why every race has access to Warrior and Hunter. But Goblin, Worgen, and now LFD don’t have them, despite the fact that they really should.

I’ve always heard people throw around the excuse that Goblins can never be altruistic, and that stops them from becoming Monks.

But the existence of

  • The Goblin in the Monk Orderhall
  • The previous Grandmaster having visited Kezan as quoted by the Orderhall Mount.
  • The Pandaren in Ashran meditating to the sounds of Goblin Machinery
  • Gally Lumpstain in the Death Knight starting zone for Goblins. Proving that Goblins can be genuinely good people.

[name], I’d recognize that face anywhere… What… What have they done to you, [name]?
You don’t remember me, [name]? I lost count of the number of jobs you and I ran back in the day on Kezan. Then I picked up a real bad Kaja’Cola habit and you saved me! It was you who took me to Kalimdor to join the Steamwheedle Cartel. You were the only good goblin I knew. That’s how I ended up in the Argent Dawn, because I knew it was what you woulda done. How could this have happened to you?
Remember the goblin that you once were, [brother/sister]! You were my best friend! Fight this!
Listen to me, [name]. You must fight against the Lich King’s control. He is a monster that wants to see this world - our world - in ruin. Don’t let him use you to accomplish his goals. You were once a hero and you can be again. Fight, damn you! Fight his control!

All this should prove that anyone can become a Monk with enough effort.
Hell, the big message with the Burdens of Shaohao that the teachings of Pandaria aren’t concerned with who you are, but the type of person you can become.

If Mechagnomes and Nightborne who’ve been closed off for years from the rest of the world can learn how to become Monks really quickly, what’s stopping Goblin or Worgen?

At this point, it’s only really a matter of time until the Devs decide they wanna allow for these extra combinations.

Obviously the older starting zones would either have to be accomodated for, or barred for the Monks, but in reality that is a pretty big non-issue in the long run. I wouldn’t mind running Exiles Reach instead of Kezan if it meant being able to play my favorite race with my favorite class.

Hell, the animations for Goblin and Worgen Monks have existed for as long as Mists has to accommodate for race morph toys. And with their model updates, every animation has been finalized for Monks as well.

EDIT: A good reasoning for adding Goblin/Worgen Monks, and even other wanted Class/Race combos is that it’d be a good way to get vets to try out the new leveling system coming with Shadowlands. One of the big features of Shadowlands is Customization, and I’ve seen your Class and Race choice a part of that customization. (Which only stops mattering if you’re trying to push for a World First record)

Any excuse saying that we cant have goblin or worgen monks due to their starting zones is now made obsolete with Exiles Reach.

I mean anytime I ever saw this I would just say orcs.

Now the timelock thing that has been the only one they had a leg to stand on.

The animations have been rigged on their skeletal frame since MoP. Used plenty of toys and items that would turn me into a worgen or goblin. Not a single animation ever janked.

Tomarrow should the big changes post for monks, cross your fingers and keep an eye out. I can have a main in shadowlands yet, goblin monks here we go.

We may be getting our hopes up, but ive been thinking the same thing

But we are like Charlie Brown and blizzard is like Lucy, saying she won’t yank the football before we kick again. We believe what they say and go for the kick and last second yank the ball to let us fall flat on our faces.

I made a post some time ago asking for more restrictions lifted for class/race combinations after the question was brought up in a MrGM Q&A thingy.

The devs stance is that there wasn’t any plans to remove restrictions for this expansion, but that they’d be willing to think about it if there was enough interest.

I honestly don’t know how to show that there’s been interest since MoP that hasn’t already been shown through the forums. I’m honestly just crossing my fingers at this point. I had to make a Goblin Monk for my first D&D character just to keep the dream alive.

We can hold out hope. There is nothing I want more for this expansion than to main monk, aside from my primal need to play goblins. It hurts that there is nothing keeping them from being monks with exiles reach coming, but blizz won’t flip that switch since they are just looking the other direction right now.
Being a fan of both the least popular class and the least popular race is truly suffering, but I’m not gonna stop poking blizzard until my dream is a reality.

We gotta let me know there is interest. Contrary to blizzards belief, people not only play monk, but also play goblins. I just want to play the race I want and the class I want, and there are no reasons left why I can’t other than blizz doesent know we care.

I’m not sold on Goblin Monks. I feel scientific races, Robognomes and Goblins, would forsake physical meditation and cultivation of Chi in exchange for just new robot legs or an azerite grenade launching, laser guided, void bullet blasting ergonomic discount rifle. The fact Robognomes can Monk dumbfounds me and it’s probably too late to realize that was a ridiculous choice.

Worgen, however, should absolutely unlock Monk and almost because of their rage - as a lifelong pursuit in learning Chi to help quell the inner rage. A Worgen Monk has an incredible story and should by all means be possible.

Although overall, i agree with your view of Goblin monks. I mean, Goblin Shamans literally have the elementals sign contracts, and then use them for their own needs. Very atypical of other Shamans. I do, however, think that there can be exceptions(as with any race in Warcraft. Pretty much any race can be any class if they tried.) But our playable races in WoW are generally a decent population, or select population of certain races in given factions. The number of Goblin Monks played would be really small, and i think that would be fitting for the in game representation of Goblin Monks

Except as we know, the playable goblins are the exception. Our goblins we play becoming high priests of the light, shaman of the earthen ring, archmages, ardent knights, and more. We have selflessly saved the world many times, battling ancient evils, supporting worthy causes, and saving people all over Azeroth and beyond.

If the generic engineering npc goblin is to be the explanation for the personality of every playable goblin, then we should extend that courtesy to every race. All of a sudden race class options become cut down because you are restricting people to play as npcs in an rpg.

The world supports these race class combos just as much if not more than it supports orc mages and monks, Tauren priests, undead monks and hunters, half the mechagnome classes, gnome monks, and so many more.

I don’t see how people can say goblin monks are the end of the line, when races that fundamentally could not have learned it in their situations, but did nonetheless simply because they are new and they wanted monk to be tagged onto them.

Any reason other than blizzard not paying attention to goblin and worgen or monks in general is an excuse. We know blizz states the reason they cannot being the start zone, and now the starter zone no longer tethers them.

It’s just a matter of it coming to blizzards attention. They wouldn’t skimp on an opportunity for more race changes, they did it with allied race death knights already.

One shaman did that in the cataclysm zone. It does not explain the remaining thousands of goblins that do not hand out waivers every time they cast an elemental summoning spell. There’s one goblin monk in the class order hall as well, but he evidently wasn’t enough to explain that class for the race.
