I’m very surprised they left these questlines intact, considering all the benign stuff they removed in the wake of the sexual harassment allegations.
Blurry painting of a girl in her underwear? GONE
Harmless /silly jokes? GONE
A questline where your ex cheats on you, so you then murder the person they cheated on you with, then you murder them and literally take their heart? Totally fine.
Chip’s out there, and he’s working for the Trade Prince. That traitor’s now working for the other team. But worse, I heard he’s going out with your ex-girlfriend, Candy Cane!
I don’t know about you, but if he was going out with my ex, I’d do something about it." 2.
" Oh, sweetie! You’re never going to guess who’s down in the slave pits to the north.
Candy’s down there, and she’s working for the Trade Prince. She dropped you like a bad habit and now she’s working for the other team. but it gets worse. Since you “dealt” with Chip, she’s dating the Trade Prince!
I don’t know about you, but if she were my ex, I’d rip her fickle heart right out of her chest."

Sounds less like something in a fantasy game and more like one of the quest designers is an incel. I don’t know how anyone could argue that that dialogue isn’t worse than everything they removed combined.
i’m surprised you did’nt point out that the ex-gf/bf quest implies that your character is heterosexual. bravo to you sir! for not pointing out the part that you know modern-folks would really take issue with!
If it were that, then they’d have removed many other things in the game. Blizz confirmed it was about the ones they let go due to the controversy that they removed some things.
You are conflating different things. They renamed McCree in Overwatch, for example, because of someone who did things. They also removed a ton of stuff because of the content itself, like the removed jokes.
Ethically, I believe that this is morally right. If you cheat, you risk your life.
If this was removed, Blizzard would be condemning certain cultures who agree with me that martial infidelity should carry the death penalty.
Blizzard doesn’t want to alienate any culture. They want to address harassment without upsetting deeply held cultural morals and ethics such as this one.
