typically gnomish first, make at least the gnomish battle chicken and gnomish death ray, all the other gnomish goodies can be traded. After that go goblin for ease of making sapper charges.

Just what i was thinking, is there any case in which the other way around is best?
Go Gnomish first to craft the BOP items, then drop it and lvl up to 200 engineering again. Then you go to Tanaris just to the north of Steemwheel, in a hut, there is a book, you read it and you can select Goblin engineering without having to do the turn in quest again. This way you have all the cool gnomish stuff but also all the best bombs

You need Gnomish first for trinkets. Then goblin permanently because otherwise you have no way of making new bombs (which are consumable, vs gnomish stuff which are equipment).
Not much of a choice. To quote the goblin sappers from Warcraft III;
“DO NOT RUN, WE ARE YOUR FRIENDS!”
Thank you guys I’ll do it like that then, Gnomish then Goblin.
Just make sure to save your extra mats from Gnomish, that way when you drop engineering to start again it won’t be so bad. I mailed all my extra stone and ore to my bank alt.
