If they get too uppity, they run the risk of getting the WC3 treatment. AkA Retconned into oblivion.
Yeah, you remember all the Gnomish contributions to the Alliance, all they technologies and units they fielded in the last RTS? What’s that? You don’t? That’s because Gnomes were ERASED FROM EXISTENCE. No mentions. No references. No acknowledgements. Nothing.
Gnomes know not to cause trouble because they’ve already been fed to the abyss once. Should it ever come necessary, they can go right back there, and one day we’ll all wake up and Gnomeregan will be filled in and inaccessible, all Alliance tech. will reference Draenei and Dwarves, and there won’t even be so much as a shadow to mark the passing of tiniest, shortest, Hobbit-y-ist of races. Like the memories of a dream, they will have completely evaporated, and fade such that they’re never remembered.
It happened before. It can happen again.
Gnomes know to be good. Or else.
