Gnomergan? Gnomergon? I can never remember how to spell it. I’m not a big alliance fan or Gnome fan (I do like the Dwarves even though I lobby against the alliance regularly)
But, this is an interesting location 20 years later. Been around since Vanilla and in WoW’s life has never been the capitol of player character Gnomes. Leper Gnomes and Troggs and various other toxic monstrosities linger but healthy Gnomes haven’t been home in 20 years. We’ve reclaimed Gilneas. Saved Silvermoon. Stormed Orgimmar to oust a Dictator. Saved Stormwind and rebuilt multiple times.
And the Gnomes are an original member of the Alliance. So, why in all this time, has their precious Alliance never done anything to help these little dudes reclaim their home? Gnome jokes aside (because I know there will be tons) how has this story gone on this long with Gnomes centralized occasionally but the Alliance has never gone in, cleared the Troggs cleaned the toxic sludge and let the Gnomes reclaim their home?
Instead we got Mechagnomes, and in the same expansion helped them clean out their home and reclaim it…
Probably because cleaning Gnomer and relocating gnomes back there doesnt measure that high up on the 'to-do" list. Gnomes always reach for greater heights but always fall short of the goal. Maybe one day they will do something great enough to be put of the short-list of places to fix.
Can’t do it for at least 2 expansions, goblins took up the short characters story for a while. In Last Titan or would be cool to reclaim it for some important titan tech taken with the gnomes from Uldaman in their earliest days though
“You never really understood, did you? It is our loyalty to our friends that provides our truest, greatest strength. This is what separates us from the ogres and troggs—and even the goblins. This is why the dwarves helped us back from near extinction, even surrendering a portion of their hallowed halls for us to call home. And this is why there are dwarves, humans, draenei, and night elves dying alongside us in the surrounding tunnels to reclaim a city that was never theirs. They are here because they are our friends, Sicco. My friends. It is a power that numbers cannot match.”
Perhaps buried with Queen Mechagon inside Gnomeregan could help the idea? King Mechagon was the Gnomeregan king before he left to find Mimiron’s treasures.
This is perhaps the one thing that does make it look like Blizz likes Horde more at times as we had a whole questline to reclaim the Gnome home city and one to reclaim Gilneas but then after the quest is over you still can’t use either one so it’s like the entire questline was pointless. Where as Trolls got their island back at the end of their chain, Nightborne got to keep Suramar… honestly not sure what the Devs are thinking here.
Spelling… Gnomeregan, like the late U.S. President Regan. I’ve always pronounced as Gnome-re-gahn. As a hopoless gnomeophile, there is nothing more that I would love to see in this game as a dedicated patch or even expansion to bring back the Gnomes to their beloved City of Gnomeregan a permanent way completely cleared of trogs and other poisonous radiation. The Gnomes are responsible for so much advanced technology throughout the entirety of the game which has given great advantage to all of the alliance and headaches to the horde. Two examples of this are the deep run tram between Stormwind and Ironforge as well as the aircraft used in the opening scenes of the pandarin expansion. I live in hope that this will happen although deep inside I doubt that it ever will. - Ittybits.
I wasn’t expecting any responses because Gnomes are generally the Foot of jokes. But I’m glad I’m not the only one thinking about it
I do remember the Dwarves helping set up a safe place but Gnomes and Dwarves have been best friends since they became flesh monstrosities. The two are meant for each other.
And we know Blizz hasn’t forgotten about Gnomergan because they added the secret boss in BFA and keep updating him so he can’t be solo’d (at least not easily if anyone has done it).
But I like how someone mentioned that the Gnomes are forward thinking. Much like PlatinumWoW pointed out the Gnomes don’t even record their own history because theyre more worried about where they’re going.
I suppose in that light it’s possible the Gnomes just aren’t interested in retaking Gnomergan. They would rather carve out a new place?
I’m still hoping we reclaim it, and the current/old version becomes a Caverns of Time dungeon or something along those lines- keep it in the game, like old Scholomance, etc.
Just, reclaim the actual city already, lmao.
It’s insane Teldrassil got roasted and they grew a whole new tree in a faster time period.
Trees aren’t exactly known to grow quickly either, lmao.
I’d kill for a “Fall of Gnomeregan” Caverns of Time raid too, where we get to see the city in its prime, that’d also be awesome. Something like the Burning of Stratholme but on a larger scale.
That would be cool. A prosperous version of Gnomergan as Sicco puts hits plan into motion. And the dungeon is the Gnomes final efforts to fend the Troggs off to take a swing at Sicco
