The Vulpera and Mechagnomes may have been added at the same time, but they’re really equal. Reused rigs, sure, but one is otherwise an ENTIRELY new race to the game, whereas the other are essentially Gnomish amputees.
The new Gnolls look quite good. I wish their torsos were maybe a bit more husky, but I’ve actually said for a few years now I thought they would make an excellent race. Keep them super primitive and even comedic, and I think they would make a great contrast to the rest of the Alliance. Might be fun to have Meatball as their “racial leader”.
I think small donkeys or mules would also make a fun little racial mount, personally. Not sure what racial abilities would be, but I could see them being totally suitable as Warriors, Rogues, Hunters, Shamans, Mages, MAYBE Warlocks (would actually be funny if it’s implied their demons could break free any time they choose, but willingly serve out of amusement), and I could maybe see Druids as well.
Now, as for a Horde counterpart, I’m not quite sure. Maybe Rexxar’s race (I forget their actual name) as a rework of Orcs? Or I know San’layn have been a popular suggestion as well.
Either way, Gnolls are definitely a fun staple of WoW, and it’d be fun to see them made playable. I feel like in terms of height, maybe put them somewhere between Gnomes and Dwarves (I feel like recent races have been getting just WAY too tall compared to the originals).
100% would love them to be playable, would just need more character slots at this point because I’ve got foxes coming out my ears.
Their laugh animation is great and they even have baby Gnoll models, but as it was said in the other thread, a big issue is making a female model, or perhaps they aren’t a dimorphic species?
Female gnolls do exist, the wiki says “Female gnolls exist and hold co-leadership roles as Matriarchs, but sometimes control whole clans” Referring to Cackle who is the matriarch of the grimtail clan but it doesn’t look like she is depicted in game.
Yessss, please I would LOVE to see Gnolls playable. I was just talking about how we don’t have good options for bestial, primitive playable races and I think Gnolls would really hit the mark here.
Primitive and Comedic would be perfect; I think there’d be a certain amount of comedy just from a party composed of this holy warrior, cunning assassin, and absolutely bonkers hyena person.
On the wiki it says they’ve been armed with crossbows before, have dabbled in primal magic when their attention span allows, and have been known to setup ambushes and traps for lone adventurers and caravans, and we’ve seen Gnoll tribal npcs cast Mage spells before, so I think your class roundup suits them pretty well. It may feel a little limited compared to Trolls / Dwarves that can be every class except two, but I don’t think that’s inherently a problem.
I’d be so happy to see them implemented into roster of playable races. I hope more people continue to voice their support of this idea!
Honestly, I think even their INTRODUCTION could be an opportunity for some humor.
Obviously, recent events saw a lot of Stormwind troops dying. I would say that some of the Riverpaw noticed this (or maybe Hogger also escaped during the break-out with Talanji and co), and decided to send an “emissary”.
They’ve decided that seeing how these weak, pathetic humans keep dying, but having “proven their worth” by standing against their fearless leader before, they’ve decided to “help out” the weak, pathetic humans and their friends (the Alliance).
Of course, the Stormwind officer hearing this would be like “Uh… sure?”, and BAM! They’re playable.
I’d put one or two of those guys in like every settlement, and just having them LOSE THEIR MINDS any time they see even the barest hint of magic. Or some that are the complete opposite, who are prepared to take on whatever god-like cosmic beings are out there, totally on their own, armed with only a sharp rock-on-a-stick.
I don’t feel like the Gnolls are particularly concerned with history.
Maybe it could even be something stupid, like “they’re low on their new favorite food, cheese, so the agree to join the war efforts for some gouda” or something silly.
