Can we tone down the “shadowyness” of Shadowform a bit more when glyphed (via https://www.wowhead.com/item=77101/glyph-of-shadow)?
The shadow form visual has always been a bit divisive, which is why the glyph was made for it. Unfortunately, the glyph barely does anything, making my transmog basically worthless other than the silhouette (and even then).
See this comparison (made a minute ago, so this is the current visual in Dragonflight):
(Note: most players will never play zoomed in like in the screenshots, so whatever inkling of my transmog pierces through the visual will basically disappear during any form of gameplay)

I agree. I think the glyph should be redesigned completely.
Instead of slightly reducing the purple effect it should instead remove it and just keep some shadowy “smoke” billowing off your character.
That way shadow form doesn’t interfere with your aesthetic but you still have a shadowy visual to indicate you’re in shadow form.
I always turn shadow form off in town or a settlement because I like seeing my transmog. Shadow form is just a bit too much.

It would be cool to have a range of Shadowforms that you can select from the barber shop, just like druid forms. For example, a “Shadowfllame” or a “Shadowfrost” form, which is mainly purple but has light swirls of fire or frost.
It would also be cool to have a glyph that lets Shadowform only be applied when you enter combat, kind of like Worgen form or the Drac’thyr visage form.
It’s like you’re going “Super Saiyan” by entering Shadowform on combat, and then when you pop Voidform or DA you’re entering “Super Saiyan 2.”

I would love to just be an actual shadow with a floating name plate.

Where’s your transmog come from? How do you get a shadowy version of the Mythic T20?
I was looking at transmogs on the weekend and only saw the Holy version with the eyes open. The shadowy version was the normal one, but it looked like the old set. (Just high rez and more 3D.) But it still had the eyes covered.
See here.
The real rarity, though, is the weapon mog…it was only available in the Legion-era mage tower.

They should just make shadow form an optional toggle spell at this point. We can cast healing spells now anyway so just give us the 10% damage buff baseline and keep shadow form as an optional cosmetic spell. I’m tired of being a purple blurr regardless of my transmogs.

And I wish my disc priest had more shadow effect options. I see almost no difference during Shadow Covenant
I’d say also rework the smoke effect itself, to look more shadowy rather than just something burnt. The Void Form actually has this kind of smoke.
Void Form looks silly. It looks less like shadow and more like you’re covered in oil.
(The tentacles are awesome; the weird oil slick is not.)
Remember when Shadowform looked like this…
And you ACTUALLY looked like a projected shadow. The smokey effect was more subtle and more ‘aura-like’. It didn’t look like they smoked you instead of hams.
(ALSO notice how good levitate used to be without the bloody imposed Holy sparkles)

Yeah at this point shadowform is just an annoying button u have to press after rezzing that only serves to hide transmogs

I always lend my voice here when this topic comes up because I so, so, SO badly want a new version of Shadowform or a new glyph. Either a truly drastic reduction of shadowy visuals, or even just bringing back shadow orb / ravens.
I farmed for a long time on my priest for my mog and I can’t even see it and despite the gameplay issues that have plagued spriest off and on, just hating the way my character looked is a huge reason I don’t play it as often anymore.
I was honestly hoping they’d add something like that into the game in the most recent spriest rework, but no such luck. I do sincerely hope it’s something that’ll come along soon though.
My big issue with the current shadowform is that is merely a boring ‘middle of the path’. Is not very spooky shadowy like before (pic in my previous post), nor subdued enough only to be an accent on your character letting gear be visible.
The terrible smoke is just the cherry on top of an already bad visual.
It really is the worst of both worlds, isn’t it? Like for those players that REALLY want to lean into the shadow-sorcerer aesthetic, it’s not all that appealing. It’s just… purple and billowy.
For those that don’t want the form to drastically impact or ruin their transmog, it’s also not acceptable. I’d rather they just bake the 10% damage buff into spriest as a spec and have shadowform be a visual toggle. I know that’s not a terribly good solution, but dang man, I just want to look nice on my spriest.
new tier set is amazing looking but…u cant see it because shadowform…
is not like it serves any purpouse nowadays , other than 10% dmg buff , its time for blizz to put shadowform as optional (put that 10% baseline) , or add glyphs options (ravens, more subtle maybe voidform option for tentacle fans lol)

This is the best path forward: more player options.
A lot of people hate to hear it, but transmog and liking the way your character looks is hugely important to a lot of players. It sucks to love a spec but hate looking at the amorphous purple blob on your screen and being like “yup that’s my character” if that’s not the style you’re going for.
I definitely want people that like shadowform to have the option to keep it. If Blizz is still on that “you need to know what spec someone is just by looking at them train” fine, give us the shadow orbs / ravens for a more subtle approach. But god, locking everyone into having this dated visual effect smother their character is something that I hoped was going to be addressed in the spriest revision.
