Glyph to stay Human Visage in combat

I am here to reiterate a message that I had when Evokers were first launched. I dont want to stay as a Dragon in combat. Now, stop right there. I know some of you are going to disagree with me. “Then whats the point of being a dracthyr?” “Just play a different class!” “I like being a dragon!”, I will address those points now. I want to start off by clarifying that this would be a purely OPTIONAL, COSMETIC glyph. If you wanna stay a dragon all the time, great! That option already exists for you! The option to stay in Human Visage form does not. Also, Evokers can only be Dracthyr, and vice versa. Its because of this handicap I find that it’s a reasonable request to have more customization options not just in looks, because we already have that, but in which form we prefer. Each Evoker is different, same as the Aspects. Some of us prefer our dragon forms, some of us want to fit in more and stay in visage form. So now let’s get into the real idea of this glyph. I propose a glyph for Evokers that allows us to stay in Visage form in combat. Currently, you can cast Living Flame, Emerald Blossom, Echo, Temporal Anomaly, Rewind, Time Dialation, Expunge, Cauterizing Flame, Tip The Scales, Stasis, Emerald Blossom, and I’m sure a fair bit more spells WHILE in combat AND stay in Human Visage form. This information negates the lore argument of “Evokers need to be in dragon-form to use all their powers”. However, upon casting any breath or dragon ability such as Living Breath, Verdant Embrace, Hover, Deep Breath, Dream Flight, etc you will immediately turn into your dragon form and stay that way until the end of combat. However, if you still WISH to be in Human Visage form in combat; you can use a GCD to turn yourself back into a human after every single ability to force-transforms you while STILL in combat. So what does this mean? This means that Evoker abilities follow the same precedent as Demon Hunter’s “Metamorphosis”. Demon Hunter’s can use all of their abilities outside of Metamorphosis, but upon using an ability that demands such power (Eye Beam), they transform into their Demon Form for the duration of the ability, and then immediately shift back into their Human Form (excluding talent builds that extend Metamorphosis). Why can Evokers not do the same? Why can I not transform into my Dragon Form for my Dream Breath, and then once I am finished casting it, automatically transform back into my Human Visage form? Because I already can transform back into my Human Visage form, I just have to do it manually and waste a GCD on it. It doesn’t seem like this would be very hard to implement and it would be very nice for people such as myself who don’t prefer the Dracthyr dragon forms as much as the Human Visage forms. Lemme know what you guys think. I’d like this to be a productive conversation and not littered with “Just play a different class.”

Okay, as a fellow evoker main that also prefers visage form, I think you should try something first:

Go to an old area or dungeon where things die in one Azure Strike, and with Chosen Identity activated, run around and one-shot things. you will see your char become a dragon, swing, then immediately go back to humanoid, over and over. It kinda feels … awful?

Believe me, I would love to be in my visage form “more”, but it isn’t as simple as it is with DH. We chain too many of our dragon-required spells, IMO. Maybe some kind of “if it’s been 3 seconds since you pressed a Dracthyr spell” or something, I dunno. The takeaway here is simply to be careful with what you ask for here.

I’ve said this in previous posts and you articulated better. If we can use a GCD in combat to switch back, why not make it automatic like DH? This shouldnt just be a glyph, it should be a part of the ability we already get to choose to automatically switch back to visage form.

That makes sense. Then comes the question, why do some abilities require dragon form and some don’t? Breathing fire and tail swipe, okay. But azure strike? Why dies that spell require dragon form when living flame or echo do not?

As far as im aware, the only abilities that seem to make sense for a dragon to perform are on long cds. We should be able to spam azure strike and disintegrate. Fire breath, deep breath, these should be dragon form and switched automatically back instead of using a GCD.

I mean here’s the thing, you’re playing a dracthyr you aren’t playing a human/blood elf.

I won’t argue Azure Strike, but the same issue arises with Pyre. I’ve certainly cast it 4-5 times back to back.

It’s funny though, when it’s all said and done, they already have means right now in the game to “stay not-dragon” and do Dracthyr spells (Orb of Sin Dorei, Atomic Recalibrator, even the silly critter drink cauldron), and … it’s kinda fine and fun? I think the defaults as they are make sense and look cool, but if you don’t care that you are a human flying across the room breathing fire out of your head, why not?

This is actually the first real argument against this idea that makes real sense. So thank you for that! To counter it I would like to cross examine the spammable spells that transform you, and the spammable spells that do not. Spammable spells that dont transform you are Living Flame, Echo, Reversion, and Emerald Blossom. Spammable spells that DO transform you are Pyre and Azure Strike. With that info established I wanna propose the question, why do these 2 spammable spells require transformation? Azure Strike require visage form but the rest of the abilities listed dont? Its not like we are actually using our claws to scratch, its blue arcane magic. The same magic that’s used in Source of Magic and the PvP talent Nullifying Shroud. This argument can also be used for Shattering Star because while not spammable at 15s CD, it is instant cast. As for Pyre, it uses the same red fire magic as Living Flame. In fact, the description of the spell just says “lob a ball of fire” and doesn’t specify that it requires any specific dragon anatomy to cast it like the Empowered Fire abilities do. When we cross examine the specifics of these abilities and see that they don’t exactly need to cause you to transform to cast them, similar to the other spammable abilities, the most logical conclusion is to just take them off transformation-spell list. If we removed those spells, only abilities that are channeled, empowered, or greater than 30s-45s in CD would transform you, which I think is more than manageable and doesn’t feel clunky at all.

“I mean heres the thing. You’re playing a demon hunter, not a blood elf or night elf.”

Now apply that argument to Worgen.

Doesn’t work as well now does it?

No maybe thats because worgen are worgen… canonically they don’t have control over their curse in combat. now if blizz wanted to make Worgens able to fight in human form i wouldn’t be opposed. This is a terrible argument.

uhhh worgen curse in lore is technically controlled, they switch in and out of their own will.

Give them the ability to be british humans

Then let them. Why would I be against it?

dragon looks bad, and on top looks silly they stole the 3d model form wizards 101!

on top you cant stay human … and wings bother so so much! while in a group… who came with the idea or approve that?

Good for you. I really dont care but I do find it hilarious that people are putting so much effort into this futile cause.

So, all you have to do to make it actually happen is become the Game Director of WoW. Good luck.

Absolutely great strawman argument.

When you cant refute what was posted break out the ol’ “Strawman argument” reply, especially when it doesnt apply.

Im strongly in favor os using the human form during combat, they should allow this to worgens too.
