Glory of the Argus Raider Discussion Thread 2.0

Hey folks!

One of the mounts that has most definitely caught my eye is the Antoran Gloomhound. What an awesome looking mount! In order to obtain it, Glory of the Argus Raider must be achieved.

Admittedly, I enjoy getting Glory of the _________ achievements. Some are definitely more straight forward than others. Ulduar, for example, is pretty easy to get on the first run. Icecrown however? That takes at least two.

Here’s the list of the Argus achievements that are needed:

  1. Worm-monger
  2. Hounds Good to Me
  3. This is the War Room!
  4. Portal Combat
  5. Spheres of Influence
  6. Hard to Kill
  7. The World Revolves Around Me
  8. Together We Stand
  9. Remember the Titans
  10. Don’t Sweat the Technique
  11. Stardust Crusaders

So in this thread, I want to go over these with a community that is far more knowledgeable than I am about this subject. What should I know? How many people should I bring with me? I hope this thread will not only be useful for myself, but also others looking to obtain this awesome mount and achievement.

Thank you!

NOTE: This was originally posted in the General forum. I’m creating this one for people not just to offer tips, but also so they can group and complete if they so desire. Thank you!

  1. If Boss has no enrage, this could be soloed (at some point). More people is better - cover the floor with your decimates. Destroy Annihilator first. Do not destroy Decimator until you’ve met the requirements for the Achievement.
  2. 2 people required. Kite purple dog to purple flares / Kite red dog to red flares / Keep the dogs separated (40 yards, iirc) at all times (or they clear their stacks) / until they each have 5 stacks.
  3. Soloable (at some point). Kill boss quickly Don’t set down more than 2 shields - if you set down any.
  4. 3 people required. Person 1 keeps boss busy. Person 2 picks up red fire and drops it off at Green portal. Person 3 runs through purple fire, then green fire, then red fire (no dispels along the way) (within 20 seconds, iirc, of picking up purple). Do not push past 90% until this happens and you start being drug across the floor for the rest of the fight.
  5. Soloable. Easier with more. Kill boss as normal. After the fight, collect the 5 orbs. The second doesn’t appear until the first is collected. The second has to be collected within a certain time of it spawning or it will reset. The third doesn’t appear until the second is collected. The third has to be collected within a certain time of it spawning or it will reset. And so on.
  6. Soloable (at some point) Easier with more. Walk through everything on the bridge going and coming.
  7. Soloable (at some point) Fight the fight right next to the boss - do not pop purple spheres. Do not kill boss until 9 spheres are up at the same time.
  8. Requires 4 - 2 tanks / 2 dps-heals. Position DPS - heals right next to wall with 2 markers for movement. Position Boss immediately adjacent to DPS - heals. Position Tanks on other side of boss - stacked. DPS - heals move together for purple swirlies - stay together. Maybe this could be done with 2 acting as tanks who are stacked and against the wall / ping ponging between two markers at some point.
  9. Minimum 2 - easier with more - cc (warlock banish is best) required. Kill all but one of each type of add - usually these are grouped up in one corner of the room and the bosses are kept as far away from them as possible. Norgannon will need to be cc’d (preferably with banish) and kept cc’d - it will only have 1 health and will die if anything hits it. If Aman’thul is first set of adds, you may want to reset as it may be impossible to survive with him up the entire fight. Alternatively, kill all Aman’thuls and wait for a 2nd group of Aman’thuls. Bosses have to be separated (18 feet, iirc) to be dps’able - this can be used to your advantage to stack them and not kill them as you wait for adds when they are at low health.
  10. Some minimum required including 2 tanks and 1 cc (again warlock banish is the best) - minimum number is based on the knockback from the group ability - you have to have enough group alive so that you are not knocked off the platform. The knockback, iirc, is based on the number of people soaking the ability. (This could be cheesed with some classes but not sure if the CD would be up for both group abilities.) Probably the toughest achievement in here - the last is also very high on the list. Get to intermission. Let 1 add walk about 1/2 way to boss and cc it. Kill all other adds. Do not push 2nd intermission until you’ve spawned and killed the special add. Add has to be affected by all moves of the combo for 2 full (back to back) combos. The tank has to position the boss such that it’s not too far away from the add (or the tank and group abilities will not hit the add) and not too close to the add (or the boss will absorb the add). The cc’r has to keep the add cc’d the whole time - when not cc’d the add moves toward the boss and if it gets too close, it will be absorbed. The combo is way different than you’ve ever done it before. Tank takes tank ability by himself (with the add). Group (besides 2nd tank) runs through the boss and stands on the add at this point (The tank does not turn boss to group). 2nd tank is positioned on the boss’ butt - waiting for group ability. Group takes group ability and is knocked back - the group needs to immediately strafe to the left or right or they will likely die to the incoming tank ability. 2nd tank (on the boss’ butt) has to taunt immediately when he sees the knockback (because the boss is about to chase the knocked back tank through the add and absorb him) (not to early - or the group ability does not hit the add - and not to late - or the boss absorbs the add) and then must run through the boss and stand in front of the add. 2nd tank takes the tank ability by itself with the add. 1st tank is positioning on the other side of the boss (away from the add). Group stacks on add again for 2nd group ability. Group (except 1st tank) takes group ability and is knocked back. 1st tank has to taunt as soon as he sees the knockback - see above. Then everyone moves out of the circle. You have to do this twice - two full combos. You can check the add as you progress as he will pick up stacks. It should be 2, 2, 1 after the first combo. You have to do this in consecutive combos or the add will die on its own. After hitting the add with two full combos the add will change. Kill that add, then kill the boss like normal.
  11. Requires 8 or more. Phases 1, 2 and 3 - just like normal. Phase 4 start - 7 people do not come back to life - they stay dead - and position themselves around the perimeter of the room - I usually use the markers for the add positions in phase 3 to assign this. Phase 4 is a lot of waiting around. Obs spawn in an increasing number each time they spawn - spawn 1 is 3 orbs, spawn 2 is 4 orbs, spawn 3 is 5 orbs, spawn 4 is 6 orbs. The alive group of people need to kill the orbs and stay alive - so you probably want 10 or 11 people with 2 or 3 alive at this point. Spawn 4 (6 orbs) is the first set you could attempt the achievement on. The dead people do not want to touch motes while they wait. Touching motes early is bad. They give whichever guy energy and if he gets over 20 energy before you’re ready to attempt the achievement, you can not give him 80 energy in 5 seconds because he only goes to 100. So, don’t touch motes until it’s time. Voice chat is highly recommended. After the alive people kill all 6 orbs up top, a countdown should be started, 3, 2, 1 - that’s when the dead people collect as many orbs as possible in 5 seconds. You can watch the energy bar of the titan (2nd guy from the left, iirc) or have an addon for tracking.
There was a weak aura for some of these Achievements in Legion but I think the pre-patch broke most or all of them - especially stardust crusaders. I use Instance Achievement Tracker for all my achievement tracking needs and it’s been very good to me. If you did it - kill the boss - if you didn’t - wipe it and try again. I highly suggest saving a lockout for this one or having a quick way to get back to Argus (an alt lockout and skips to Aggrammar).

I hope this helps.

The Achievements Discord can also help.

I’m sure Nightswifty (the Owner of the Achievements Discord) wrote an excellent guide on WoWhead:

I also help people earn achievements from time to time - Argus Raider runs will be posted soon (likely posted Saturday 12.29) on OpenRaid - 1.11 at 5 pm central for Horde / 1.14 at 5 pm central for Alliance
