Global Pathfinder Option - All Riding Skills FREE Account-wide!

WAIT!!!

Before you get out your flamethrowers, let me explain.

I’m currently on my own journey to get Loremaster for every continent in World of Warcraft. Then it hit me. Why not create Pathfinder achievements for both Vanilla and all of the other expansions. Optional of course. You would still be able to buy your riding skills for gold per character, but imagine this. If you achieve both Explorer status AND Loremaster status ( no reps or anything), your riding skills become FREE account wide.

Have Loremaster and Explorer for both Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor? You automatically gain the riding skill at the given level. You ding level 20, you get Apprentice Riding automatically. Same for Journeyman Riding at level 40 and Expert Riding at level 60.

Have Loremaster and Explorer for both Outland and Northrend? Nice! You now have Artisan Riding unlocked for every character who reaches level 70. No more spending 5000 gold per character.

Have Loremaster and Explorer for both Cataclysm and Pandaria? Awesome! You now have Master Riding unlocked for every character who reaches level 80. Without spending the gold.

I figured this would be an extra incentive for people to play every major questline for all of the content. Again, this would be OPTIONAL for flying in those areas. You would still have the option to shell out the gold if you would prefer.

So, what do you think? Should Global Pathfinder be a thing? So long as the only two achievements you need for each continent are Loremaster and Explorer?

How about pitchforks? Are pitchforks okay?

It is a reasonable proposal. I won’t express a “yes/no” opinion, but it’s well thought and well described.

<puts away pitchfork, grumbling>

Thank you!

I think the real question is how many people are already motivated enough to do Loremaster. When it comes to Pathfinder, I’ve always considered the Loremaster portion of the achievement to be the biggest hurtle to jump.

Flying will never be made more available, more useful or more relevant, it will only ever be made less accessible. Your development masters have spoken.

yeahyeahthankyouforyoursubNEXT!

Yeah, but the post doesn’t mention anything regarding existing Pathfinders, but rather adding three new optional Pathfinders that would allow for all riding skills to be free account-wide if achieved.

it’s not a terrible idea but I wonder how many people would take advantage of the option even if it was available. The gold necessary to pay for low level riding skills is super easy to obtain at endgame, which almost all players have immediate access to via the level boost included with BFA.

This is true, but I imagine that people who would be going for this are folks who are already interested in getting The Loremaster achievement to begin with, so this would be a little extra bonus for those who go out of their way to do it

I like your idea. I would like to not to shell out 42-4300 gold for my guys extra fast flying.

I haven’t flown in end game since the introduction of Pathfinder in WoD so that should tell you something about how I feel about it. As long as it’s optional, fine, but retroactively making pathfinder apply to old content is definitely an idea they don’t need in their heads.

Leave buy for gold in game for any first time players option.

Then current content
hit max level
do a five minute quest and achieve pathfinder wow
All mounts / flying / etc unlocked account wide.

Just remove travel options as the problem blix created and can remove any time they choose to.

Those who want to ride and enjoy stuff their way from ground or air or walking, do it.

It’s a journey, not a race to a finish line.

Would sure make me happier with how bliz handles things related to any travel.

Don’t gate or slow down playing the game by restricting travel.

Like I said, it would be 100% optional and serve as a bonus for those who go out of their way to get both World Explorer and The Loremaster achievements

I think this is an outstanding idea. I never realized what a hurtle it is to buy flying with a low level character until I rolled on my friend’s server and had no access to the massive wealth of Fenshire the Orc. Especially now that you can’t really make money on a low level character the way you used to (thanks to the profession changes).

I would go one step further and make an option to buy flying for Draenor & Legion. If you don’t have pathfinder, you can still buy the flying on your individual character.

Agreed. I have another post out there that talks about Patch X.0 releasing Pathfinder Part 1, Patch X.1 releasing Pathfinder Part 2, and Patch X.2 enabling players to buy flight per character via gold if they choose.

And thank you for the kind words!

No. I don’t even like pathfinder in current content. Stop being so cheap - it doesn’t cost much to buy riding.

Which is why it would be optional. You’d still be able to buy flight if you’d prefer via gold. This is for the folks who go out of their way to do and explore all of the content

It would have to be retroactive and pointless. I already have those achievements, all this would do is save me gold and I still think it is a bad idea.

Yes, it would definitely be retroactive, but this would serve as a way to save gold while exploring content. Obviously this would cater to those who love to level alts, but what I’m not getting from you is why you don’t like the idea of having the extra option? It doesn’t take anything away, and if anything, if you already have those achievements, then you’d automatically have the skills unlocked for all of your future alts

Have you ever seen blizzard award an achievement retroactively, especially for this type of thing ?

I am against it because it is literally pointless. It is a waste of time for them to do this. I don’t think it is good for the game anyway. If people want to explore and enjoy exploring they don’t need additional incentive. It is a good thing for people to actually play that part of the game that involves earning gold on servers and on new characters.

As an altaholic I love this idea! I even wouldn’t mind if they add a rep grind or two to it. It would be worth it.
