Global Chat Channels

I know there is the normal #nochanges crowd, but to the rest of you here me out. Can we make trade global so people stop using lookingforgroup because it’s global? Since boosting dominates lfg more than actual grouping can Blizz just create global lookingforboost channel?

I am well aware anyone can make a boosting channel, but without blizz doing it, the channel can be hijacked or people will just use lfg. The few of us who actually level alts for the fun of playing the game, have lfg flooded with boosting or item selling.

I also think blizz should male a global /world channel, so all trash talk, guild/group drama, politics, and thunderfury spam can go there. But that might be asking too much.

U realize you can just create any channel you want and then hopefully players respond to it. So create your own boosting channel and advertise it in world. Hopefully people will respond to it. If not you and your idea are probably a minority and no need to change anything.

No reason to get daddy blizzard involved to make another useless change to the game that alters the original experience even further. Thanks!

Without blizzard officially making the channels it will never become a thing. I’ve made all these channels on several servers, but without blizz making it official, like lfg, it just dies off and everyone goes back to lfg.

dude… /world channel is not an official channel and im pretty sure it blossoms on every server. Its probably just an issue that is bothering you noyan.

No but you can

lfg is a player made channel not an official channel.

Maybe you are right lol!

We don’t need Blizzard to step in and tell us how to play. A hands off approach is best.

So, why is the jargon in Trade OK but not LookingForGroup?

I’ve tested both Alliance sides for both Bloodsail Buccaneers and Pagle, and this statement is not true. Pagle has more actual groups forming than BB. Along with any overbearing of boosted runs. Both Pagle and BB share the same amount of boosted advertisements.

Well, the key to getting people is to go where they are…

Yeah, I’m not sitting in the LookingForGroup Channel all day, as I quest. I /leave, when I have no desire to run a dungeon. I only have it on, when I’m forming (yes, forming, not joining) a group.

The only time I’ll jump into a PuG is if they advertise outside the LookingForGroup Channel, and I think to myself…“why not?”.

/leave works great still.

I think my suggestion in recruiting outside of the LookingForGroup Channel is “too much” 'cause nobody thinks to ask the zone chats…IDK how many times I’ve caught someone on an Alt willing to tag along…and Toon Hopped off their Human in Elwynn to log over to a more suitable level Toon, for the run.

I actually do the opposite. I use trade channel both for trade and LFG because that’s what all the people are. LFG on my server is largely a place for people to banter back and forth and I get way more hits for groups in trade.

Every server is different, don’t be mad at people for using the channel that gets them results.

I suspect he is referring to /lookingforgroup which is an official channel.

thinking that people won’t just then spam their boost cancer in the global channel AND lookingforgroup

:brain:

yeah most people refer to “lookingforgroup” as lfg, the “lfg” channel is irrelevant on both servers I play on, nobody really uses it.

I use LFG all the time, looking for groups on my leveling toons. The trade channel only works if you’re in a city. I’m not sitting around. I’m out questing and grinding, while I try to find a dungeon group.

It’s true that a few people use LFG to banter about sex, drugs and politics. I assume they “want an audience that has to listen to me”. I also assume they are teenagers who can’t “talk dirty” at home.

In retail, that was trade channel. I turned that channel off on all my toons around 2008. I just gave up. There was always someone talking about donkeys and Utah and Cuba and whatever.

The logical reason for not having Trade global, having it only when you’re in a major city, is access to the person buying or selling an item. You can only exchange goods and gold when you’re in the same location. Do you really want to see an item you want, only to discover they’re in EPL while you’re in Tanaris?

Boosters wouldn’t be willing to lower their audience to only people who join and pay attention to a channel. They spam in ALL channels they can.

My solution is to ignore liberally, and if needed get an addon to increase ignores. It cleans up multiple chat channels beautifully. Of course, if they also buy/sell in Trade, you’ll miss them, but my opinion is that’s no loss.

I think you’ve got an overly optimistic view of player’s willingness to move their spam to channels that are more likely to be opted out of. Local City and Trade see lots of LFG simply because those looking know not everyone has joined LFG.
