Blizzard said they wouldn’t take it away or fundamentally change it. Not that they wouldn’t bring it down to Earth a tad.
No matter what you think, Glimmer was objectively too strong. It made Hpally scale stupidly well, have very few weaknesses, and basically be better disc priests, when disc is already the best progression healer.
It’s a relatively small nerf to keep hpal in check. Chill the hell out.
We want to keep an eye on that, but the preliminary look for 8.2 is that this is still a lively setup that people are excited to play. Any change would likely be a small tweak that’s not intended to change its status as a popular or recommended play style.
“I wanted to highlight this one sentence in particular however. Many people have took this post initially to mean NO NERFS however, that is not what I took away from this post. This post seems to be aimed more at letting people know that it is safe to prepare the Glimmer build for 8.2 and that the build in its core will continue to function, and be viable, or at least better than standard. As we saw, there was a minor adjustment to scaling that brings the trait more in line, without upsetting overall balance.”
“This will result in (depending on how you play) a rough 4% nerf in overall HPS. In Mythic+, Glimmer of Light generally makes up a smaller portion of your healing kit, as such this change will barely be noticed. When you consider all of the utility Paladin brings, as well as factor in Devotion Aura you will see that Paladins are still just as powerful as before. No need for pitch forks friends.”
Its like he didn’t even read Pelinal’s response or outright ignored it.
No it’s a totally uncalled for and out of line, insane nerf to hpal, blizzard probably doesn’t even play their own game, literally unplayable. wow is dead and God is on his way out too
I laughed so hard when I saw this on wowhead. What was it, two weeks ago, when they said “we will not change GoL, we will allow it”? Then they come back and say “BUT! You must enjoy it on our terms!”. The only reason I can see for the nerf is IF there is an essence on the PTR we’re not aware of that is causing Holy to perform too well. If that’s not the case, then this is just silly. It’s almost spiteful. I can imagine an angry dev somewhere saying “we didn’t intend for you to play Holy this way, take this!” Baseline Holy is the most bland, boring, un-imaginative spec I have possibly ever played…nerfing the variation of the spec that is actually fun is not how you keep people playing paladins.
I think I read it amounts to like a 3-4% throughput nerf? A non-issue. The build is still completely intact and the power gains from the updated Heart and Essences will more than make up for it.
I didn’t even know this was a build, but now that I know there is a way to play a melee healing Paladin, there is no nerf big enough to make me not play it (so long as it still works).
Looking at numbers, it looks like the top Glimmer Paladins were topping healing, while also beating out some entire DPS specs’ DPS. That’s insanity to think that is going to stay that way.
Yeah, it’s a very fun playstile, totally recommend it.
The nerf is pretty small and completely expected based on the initial communication we got a few weeks back (apparently some players misinterpreted and expected zero nerfs, which is not what they said), it will not change anything in terms of what the build does, it will still be one of the strongest healing specs in Raids that provides the whole package of strong throughput, strong utility, and good DPS contribution.
This part is false though, DPS specs do way way more damage.
Remember when mistweaver had renewing mist that you then used uplift to raid heal with? Explain to me how glimmer build is any different you put a buff on players then use a spell to heal everyone that has that buff… Now that we established that, remember when blizzard said that was too strong because it made good players heal for too much and bad players heal for too little.
Holy pally can put out some decent ST burst if you’re popping HA/Wings(Sanctified wrath), but the only way I can see you beating a dps is if the dps is half afk, or you’re doing shrine of the storms final boss. <3 pulling aggro from the tank from healer dps on that fight.
I just wish GoL scaled with Int. If you play GoL every azerite piece you get is worthless, regardless of ilevel, unless it has GoL on it. I guess it’s the compromise you make with that playstyle.
BTW they did say 10-12%. On the PTR it’s currently 16%.
Check out the top 20 guilds that are using glimmer paladins, of the top 20 guilds, that’s 20 paladins. Of those 20 paladins, 7 of them are in the top 12 dps for their respective groups.
