Gladiator Sub Spec

I understand this topic may have been beaten to death at this point but still I am a returning player and wanted to know. With the Dragonflight expansion and the ability to play how you want with the talents granting abilities and goodies the individual play wants, why couldn’t we have gladiator as a sub spec/talent? I miss being able to sword and board dps my way through dungeons and world quests. The thought of a warrior that focuses on DPS but has a higher self preservation mindset wouldn’t be so bad. I know its been a few expansions since we’ve seen this and with the game allowing such customization now with talents it doesnt feel like this would be impossible to balance/add for warriors to have.
Thanks for re-reading another topic on the Gladiator stance.

I never played it when it was available, but alot of people seemed to like it. I say let them have it, sounds really cool.

Its rose tinted glasses, Gladiator Stance warrior was pretty garbage. It couldnt be balanced like basically all other sub specs or specs that were split.

While the concept is cool, it never worked in execution.

It was added in WoD, if we go that far perhaps it will return, they removed it in Legion. Blizzard hated it probably because it was the most fun Warriors ever had!

Warrior fun = Bad for Blizzard!

Yes it did, I could be top DPS always in top 4…

You crazy!

Then you were playing with bad people. End of story.

Gladiator Stance was a bottom tier spec overall sometimes in the #4 spot from the bottom, or #5 spot from the bottom. Just because you beat out some other players that were clearly bad does not mean that it was a good spec and that they should bring it back.

They liked it because it was op broken outdpsing actual arms and fury warriors when highmaul launched. They were also stupid op in pvp thabks to the glyph that had to be removed for them to be balanced. Ince they got nerfed people abandoned it. That doesnt sound like they liked the ‘fantasy’ just the performance

Ignore the haters lol. Not all of us like running around with a 2hander, and in reality frontline fighters rarely went to battle in history swinging a giant axe.

Sadly Prot PvP is not a viable option.

It sits in the corner with 2-hand Shaman, no pet Hunter, Shockadin, Demonform Locks, Blood DPS DK’s and other popular alternate playstyles.

The current hope, is that Blizzard does something with Hero talents in the next expansion, possibly allowing Arms to equip a shield + 2hander combo. Thers also the Season of Discovery, hopefully in later phases Shield Warriors get some TLC so prot can PvP.

It wasn’t removed, it was changed to only work while in defensive stance. But yeah it was actually really strong in the starting tiers and just didn’t scale at all

Gladiator wasnt even good in Highmaul. Its max dps was 49k while the average for Arms and Fury were 53k and 51k. The max for those specs were around 66k. Highmaul on WCL looks like there is something wrong with it just based on participation numbers compared to BRF (which is the same exact raid tier).

BRF Gladiator is dead last. All of the averages are down across the board so no one can say “Gladiator was nerfed hard” because it wasnt. The top is only 45k for Gladiator in BRF only 4k down from Highmaul and that could be down to just fight design.

Gladiator was garbage throughout WoD.

I just wanna smash things with shield and pretend I’m a viking.

Gladiator was just wasteful design from the start. If you make a sword-and-boarder, people expect that to be more durable than the guy swinging an oversized katana. But then if you do that, that becomes an advantage that you should be expected to leverage.

Because Gladiator Stance itself made it impossible —after depleting Shield Wall— even swap to as much snap-mitigation as Arms and Fury would later have access to, though, that was never going to happen.

Gladiator could have enjoyably (if not super competitively for DPS alone) been a thing, certainly, but it needed to have done that by just offering Shield Charge as its final talent (as simply an attack that shared a CD with Shield Block), not a stance that locked you out of both passive mitigation and your Shield Block. It needed to still be open to little opportunities for snap-tanking, akin to DbtS+Intervene or soak+SecondWind utility now, rather than locked apart.

Ooo well thats a bummer sword and shield as dps sounds pretty neat

It was amazing at the time. In pvp it was really good. But it was just a nice way to have sword and board DPS.

I would absolutely love to have a sword and board dps. I never play tank, so i was always jelly of the sheild mogs out there

Trust me for a brief moment in time we had it, and it was so much fun.

Crys in warrior lol

Glad spec was the best Dps spec to ever grace this game. Nothing will every be that good.

It was only good because of shield slam dispel, which they made require defensive stance.

Thats not what made it good, warrior still have that, and no one does prot PVP.

It was good because it did slightly less damage then a normal DPS + it had the defensives of a prot warrior, and they had insane gap closing abilities because rather then shield block they got shield charge.

So as a warrior you had like 5 -6 gap closers that would let you stick ontop on anything. Not even druids could keep away from us.
