ive never liked it. breaks my flow when casting flurrys and ice lances. so i just dont pick it and dosnt seem to affect my damage much. give it a try. keep every talent the same just remove glacial spike and pick anything and see if its the same for you

Glacial Spike does a ton of damage. It also roots enemies for a small amount of time. The only downside is you need 5 Ice Lances. I think it can also strike multiple enemies.
Glacial spike is ALL of your damage and if you’re not using it you’re gimping your team. I’m sorry.

Glacial Spike is the bulk of Frost’s damage and you’re delusional if you think otherwise. It’s also awesome and deserves more talents related to it.

Not having Glacial Spike is a gigantic DPS loss if you would otherwise play Glacial Spike correctly and Shatter it. Honestly this talents needs to be further up the tree because it’s massively rotation-altering and frankly a key button in Frost’s toolkit.

I rly hope they will buff icelance-dmg /talents that DON T benefit glacial and will bring a 2. playstyle without glacial soon that is good.
And where is your source that it’s only a 6% decrease in overall damage?
Glacial spike is like drinking coffee. You hate it at first but you keep doing it because everyone else is. And then suddenly, it starts to taste better. And then its suddenly something you can’t see yourself without.

Glacial Spike enjoyer here. But I will say, yeah, I’ve been so annoyed with how the talent trees have been handled this expansion. When they came out in Dragonflight, we were given the impression we’d get real choice and builds that could be competitive with each other within a tree. That rarely seems to happen for any specs in the game actually. Makes you wonder what the point of it all was.

Ice Lance spam and Glacial Spike being 1% apart? That’s not even funny. Either Glacial Spike becomes the baseline or some other form spell or mechanic should be added as an option, but hoping to play without it with nothing else added in its place and still doing competitive DPS is ridiculous.

Ray of Frost however… I despise with a passion.

I just do, I didn’t enjoy it when I came back in Legion and I still don’t today. Same with Warlock’s Channel Demonfire.
I can’t imagine playing frost without GS. It also roots so with enough haste you can spell-queue a frostbolt+icelance and shatter both.
I LOVE glacial spike, but its cast time is a bit long for the footwork in raid this tier.
If it had a shorter cast time, would be spicy.
If it had even shorter cast-time then there would be never an alternative +viable+ playstyle, so no thanks.
Hopefully there will be SOON a 2. playstyle without glacial for ST.
