Not to be rude but there are more Werewolves with tails than without. A lot of it comes down to the movies budget.
Oh, I know it was a mistake, but I still like to bring it up to tease. Genn doesnât canonically have a tail, but it says something that people keep thinking they do have tails.
Frankly, it only matters that theyâre giving us more customization options, and male worgen literally should not be able to stand hunched forward without backward balance to even it out.
True! What about books? Cycle of the Werewolf by Stephen King is one of my favorites. What about yours?
Thatâs fair. It does seem unnatural. But I would argue as well that thatâs the point of the hunch and no tail, to be a reminder that these things are neither man nor beast. The hunch in particular is a very key characteristic in the comics, reminding of their bestial and yet humanoid build. It always looks like a worgen is just a second away from dripping to all fours like its instincts want it to, like it it just one moment away from slipping into the forest.
Since we are on the subject of werewolves with tails again, I give you this! This came out just this week!
Thatâs actually a good point! Elderscrolls has had tailed werewolves since the beginning and they have stayed true to their choice.
World of Warcraft has done the same. They have had the technology to add extra limbs and ligaments, and they have not, for good reason. The worgen are not garou, and they are not Lycans, they are worgen. And I respect that they have stayed true to that for 16 years.

PUPPY DOOOGGGSSSS!
Also keep in mind that when Blizzard decided to make worgen a playable race, they actually did intend to give worgen (female at least) a tail for the model. Females in particular went through severe development hell.
I personally was an alpha/beta tester. In fact, I was the very first person in the alpha to play a worgen from 1-85. Some vanilla content, ALL of bc, ALL of wotlk quests didnât even have worgen flagged and eligible to receive those quests. I literally mob grinded for days without end. Itâs something I take with pride but sadly canât have anyone but Blizzard back me up on this lol. My charâs name was Reona.
Anyways, I bring up the alpha/beta because I was testing everything when it came to worgen. The female model didnât come in until waaaay late in the beta and even then, it got switched less than 2 weeks of Cataclysm launch. Earlier in the thread, I have linked official concept art by Blizzard with female worgen having tails. Right now, the models themselves even have a tail bone rig. I am no 3d modeler but I have spoken to one who has made custom worgen models with tails and have discussed it in some detail.
This all comes down to player aesthetics now really. People have been wanting on tails on worgen, like myself, for 10 years. Iâve been highly passionate about it. I get some people do not want tails and some people are saying LUL FURRY. They are entitled to that. Though we are at an age and Shadowlands being the perfect pilot where these options would be mostly positive for the game as worgen themselves desperately need options to make their characters shine. Right now, they are one of the least customizable races in the game as far as Shadowlands content.
Note that - if they did - they decided otherwise. I respect that you believe it was because they were unable. I believe it was a conscious decision, for one to stay true to the werewolf theme, and for two because worgen had never had tails and have always been fine without them. If tails were to be added, I would be sorely disappointed that blizzard caved on tthis ideal. Therefore I continue to support their choice for worgen as they were designed, not as plays wish they were.
Im more a movie fan than book fan. Dont get me wrong there are a lot of good stories out there. Thing is to me there are 2 kinds of Werewolves. And it might be a nit pick but there are Lycanthropes which are more wolf like having a tail, muzzle, and features that are pure animalistic. Then there are Wolf men, the fur faced humans who growl at people.
But at the same time the original concept art at least for Female Worgen had a tail. But they ran out of time as the Worgen model for females was only shown one month before cata went live and changed to the old terrible model 2 weeks before release. Then the Worgen were left in limbo for 10 years before they finally choose to update the heads of female Worgen to bring them in line with the other higher quality models. Personally I donât see anything wrong with the optional choice of a tail or no tail.
Some people cry⌠MUHHHHH LORE⌠Ya⌠No⌠The Lore of World of Warcraft is long dead⌠Long live the Lore. Blizzard changes the lore all the time to allow new things for players. Such as Night Elf Mages, Dark Skinned Blood Elves, Eredar being corrupted by Sargaras rather than him be corrupted by dreadlords⌠And so on⌠I love WoW Lore but as Garrosh said âTimes Changeâ so let it be an optional choice those who want it will use it and those who dont will not.
I mean, after all these years we finally got something for the High Elf players.
Also keep in mind, we didnât have upright orcs and dark skinned elves either. Upright orcs became a thing after the popular demand which stemmed from concept and dark skinned elves⌠well, they actually break lore but hey, weâre getting them. So having tails on worgen really isnât that far fetched anymore.
Youâre right, a single picture did. There was also concept art of the worgen racial mount. A werewolf pig. Have you seen it?
There were two pieces
True! And both high elves and orc posture have existed in lore, in the comics and books. Tailed worgen however, are purely fanon.
Tails please
Not dark skinned elves though. Everything in WoWâs lore has always said high/blood elves are fair skinned. What they are doing for Shadowlands with the darker skins actually goes against their own canon lore.
I like how youâre not being a jerk. Thanks for that. Everyone else was being rude.
Regardless of whether it was intended or not, how many werewolves have tails and how many donât, what a curse does to a person, etc., customization ainât a bad thing and if it would make a lot of us happy, it wonât hurt anyone.
Nope there was 2 pictures and both were the first concept art for Female Worgen and both had tails. If I could link em I would but im fairly sure every time I get banned from the forums I lose the chance to post pics. Anyone able to post the pictures?
Also, we arenât exactly getting High Elves. If we had high elves, weâd be able to have our paladins! What we got is a compromise from the popular request.
Thank you WolfĂŻe
There is another issue I would love to see addressed too and that is Worgen size. Worgen are far too small according to the lore. They were confirmed to be 8 feet tall in Worgen form but right now the model is only 6 foot 11 inches⌠8 foot models work fine, just look at Tauren and Zandi trolls.
