Oh yeah, can’t forget those either!
I had a thread on this a little while ago, seemed to get a lot of traction, but alas, fell on deaf ears.
It must have been on the previous forums before the migration, but it should 100% be revisited, and I’ll probably make another post on it.
On the topic of shaman tanks and ghost wolf, I wouldn’t mind seeing a talent or rank two ability where ghost wolf triggers astral shift.
When you play the earlier versions of Shaman its almost like they had maybe planned on making a Shaman tank spec but maybe they just didn’t follow through. I’d love to see it though and I would play the heck out of it.
OP, do you mean adding a 4th spec or changing one like Survival Hunters? It has a huge impact on my opinion.
Adding 4th spec I am down, changing one to be a tank I am not down with.
Adding a 4th. I like the other specs, and though they could use some love too, I don’t want to just get rid of them.
Shaman Tank spec Only
Crash lightning
level 10 required
melee range
instant 6 second cooldown
- Electrocutes all enemies in front of you, dealing (480% of spell power) Nature damage. Hitting 2 or more targets enhances your weapons for 10 sec, causing your next Stormstrike to also proc Windfury weapon, dealing four extra weapon attacks dealing 750% Nature damage to all targets in front of you. (Windfury effect disabled in PvP Instances)
That could make 2H or 1H shaman tanking a blast! lol. THREAT CITY! Obviously I have no idea about the number scaling, I was thinking old school WF proc for tanks, just like in classic WoW / TBC Classic.
(NOTE)
While playing classic WoW on my hunter, we actually couldn’t find a tank for Stratholme and a shaman volunteered. At first we laughed, but grew desperate. No joke, not only did this enhance shaman tank the instance fully, but it was WAY better than most of the tanks we normally would have had. (he did have to drink after every pull, but he held threat and did pretty decent damage.)
I love this idea.
Shamans have always been able to use 2-handers but we haven’t had a spec that actually utilizes them since vanilla. I think adding a 2-hander wielding earth warden (maybe 2-handed hammers specifically) as a 4th sepc for shaman sounds awesome and would perfectly fit the shaman primitive/tribal theme.
Earth warden would presumably fill a tanking niche similar to holy paladin w/water magic for off-healing and earth magic for mitigation while otherwise being maybe on the squishier side as tanks go. Focused on active mitigation through defensive ability usage and healing.
Alot of the kit could be a combination of existing tools of resto and enhance with abilities like earthgrab/earthen wall/spirit link/healing stream totems, sundering/earthen spike, an enhanced version of nature’s guardian, rockbiter weapon imbue, maybe a lava/molten weapon attack that spreads flame shock, etc. plus its own mix of new things.
Shaman tank could have its own niche focused on zone empowerment/totems with mobility being on the lower end of the tank spectrum. Maybe similar to the catalyst they are introducing in GW2. Could maybe also have its own temporary off-tank in the form of an extra strong version of greater earth elemental. Maybe with special powers or a pet bar.
I think earth warden could have enough of its own flavor and unique kit/playstyle that it could be a worthy addition to the current spec/class offerings that would maybe get some new folks interested in tanking that aren’t otherwise drawn to the class fantasy of the other tank offerings.
Might also be cathartic for squishy shamans to have something more durable they can swap to when the mood suits too. ;p
I’d say 2 hand weapon and an Earth shield magically made from a spell or passive or something.
Maybe even use a own version of Link totem. Like it share his hp with a totem so all dmg taken for a short duration(Or totem hp) are split in 2.
A shaman tank utilizing NEW tank totems could be neat! Hopefully Blizzard reads the forums one day and says, “you know what ,they are on to something!”
Until then, I’ll keep dreaming I guess.
Please do not give shaman tank spec. If it is gonna happen all other specs gonna such hard compare to it. Look at restor; while restor is at when enh and elem considered as weak dmg choice. But if we gonna add tank spec all the attention is gonna be put on tank spec. So please no let us stay supportive class with one shot potential, reincarnation and c’mon give us a unique Blood Lust
I don’t think that’s entirely true, I mean look at druids, the most over powered class in the game is still getting buffs, most recently to their resto spec.
It’s like giving a warrior healer spec
All the other melee hybrids have a tank spec (druid, paladin, monk).
I think adding a tank spec for shaman would be a good addition. It could offer a different flavor and playstyle than the existing tanks and could be built on a shaman class foundation that already has DPS and healing tools.
A shaman tank could combine off-healing/self healing, zone empowerment through totems, and elemental themed damage/mitigation tools into a kit that could still be in keeping with the shaman glass cannon model - somewhat higher damage/off-healing/range than the average tank but with somewhat lower durability/mobility.
I’d personally love to see it. At least if the spec used a 2-hander. The aesthetic of a shaman tank wielding a shield and 1-hander same as ele/resto doesn’t feel as exotic/interesting/iconic. Plus it would be a kick in the teeth to the crowd that’s been begging for shaman to be able use 2-handers since vanilla.
And since it would just be a 4th shaman spec that would probably share a large portion of its kit with other shaman, it wouldn’t be as involved as adding another class. Plus, given how unpopular tanking is, it might not hurt to have one more class that can tank. Particularly one that would potentially be as novel, from an aesthetic/class fantasy perspective, as a shaman tank.
If we’re headed back to the Dragon Isles of Azeroth to help heal the planet in 10.0, what better time would there be to introduce an earth themed protection spec like the Earth Warden!
I was actually thinking this myself. Didn’t druids get an extra spec? I am pretty sure they only had 3 back in BC but I could be wrong. What do Classic Druids look like? I haven’t even checked classic.

I think they call that Brewmaster monk, don’t they? Usually when a Monk tanks they summon that Ox totem that draws aggro don’t they?

Yeah but the one I proposed was different. It doesnt draw aggro but you link your hp with a totem so for the totem duration/or totem hp all dmg are split in half.
Its like a take on shield but shammy themed visually and all
I personally wanna see elem or enh in top charts of the content instead of asking for tank spec. Give dk a healer spec too and call it Necro healer. I wanna see it, it’s gonna be very cool trust me I already created a gameplay and it sooo cool.
Well I would love to see druids get nerfed. But that wont happen I want Shamans to get a tank so I do not have to change classes to tank.
Shamans getting a tank spec will make them top of the charts because it will be necessary to pay much more attention to them with balancing a new spec.
Shamans getting a tank spec essentially gives us both what we want
This is what you want
