Give Players a way to unlock more Catalyst Charges

The Catalyst system is begining to feel a bit dated already, and it would be nice to simply remove the Catalyst Charge cap once the Conquest cap has been lifted.

Although PvP is effected, I just simply mean w/e that time metric is…

But if there’s some Activision accountant that says charges can’t be unlocked cause blah blah blah… can you at least give us an in-game way to unlock more charges?

You can’t do that without the PvE players crying foul as well. Can’t uncap it because carries exist, giving people better gear that they didn’t actually earn. That’s my theory, in any case.

I think the cross section of players that want to pvp and do M+ are the most affected by the currently flawed catalyst system.

I have to choose between a pvp 4 set and a pve 4 set.

I agree there is a problem with the PvE vs PvP tier choices, but even worse is the natural gearing process doesn’t keep up with the player.

Example:

Say there is 4 Creation Catalyst Charges unlocked;

I leveled a fresh toon to 80, got full Veteran Track gear and used my 4 charges on those items to unlock my 4 piece.

Because I gained the power from my 4 piece bonus, I was then able to complete harder content which unlocked Champion Track Gear.

After doing a +8 Delve, I got a Champion Track Chest piece and unlocked a weekly 616 Vault Reward.

I have no charges of my Catalyst available… What do I do?

  • Do I just leave my Champion Track Chest sit in my bags?
    • I got a better item piece of gear, but I can’t use it – that does not feel rewarding or fun.
  • What if I get a Non-Tier Shoulder from my Vault? Which item do I upgrade then?
    • Is that Chest going to sit in my Bags for another week?

The Creation Catalyst does not keep up with the natural player progression system. How can that be fixed? =/

I think it could be fair to give an extra charge past the first one if you have not participated in any raiding in the past 2 weeks.

Example:

Week 1 - one charge
Week 2 - nothing
Week 3 - one charge if you raided at all in week 1 or 2, two charges if you haven’t
Week 4 - nothing
Week 5 - one charge if you raided at all in week 3 or 4, two charges if you haven’t

Two weeks of raiding is likely to net at least 1 tier piece for most raiders, or enough other pieces (barring horrible luck) that this change would mostly only effect pvpers and non-raiders who either only do M+ or are just casual.

If you completely ignore raiding, you’d get 1 extra tier piece by week 3, likely giving you your 4piece. If you raid, you’re likely at 4piece before then anyway.
