Give me a reason to keep playing mage

At this point. I’ve become soured on the class. I’m considering re-rolling seeing what’s going on with the chances to shadowlands. At this point, I’ve began to lose hope on seeing any promising chances to the mage. The only reason why fire out performing the other specs by a large margin is because of the bracers, font and essence. Oh you don’t have 3 of those? You’re better off re-rolling or quitting you scrub. Maybe fire has highest skill ceiling right now and I just can’t seem to get there no matter how hard I try. Arcane suffers a massive GCD problem and while Frost has been the least affect it’s lags behind compared fire and arcane.

I think non group content is way too easy on every other class. Mage is the only one I feel challenged on. This is a new discovery of mine i havent really played but i picked it up a few weeks ago and am loving it right now.

Everything else is just too easy imo

It would be nice if they didnt gimp mage and made all 3 specs viable (as with any other 3 spec dps) but imo its the only challenge

I’m right there with you tbh…

The core changes are “meh” at best. But the covenant abilities we’re getting seem pretty awful as a whole as well. That Venthyr ability just makes me sick thinking about it.

Nothing about Mage makes me excited for them in Shadowlands. Which is extremely hard for me to accept.

Going into Legion I remember being super up-set about things I was losing. But seeing that we were getting new things in all of our specs had me equally excited as well. I was again up-set going into BfA losing some of those Legion abilities that I grew to love… (Most of them became talents, but useless talents.)
Now going into Shadowlands it feels exactly the same…Its hard for me to be excited about getting Alter time back when we’re losing a shimmer charge.

Everything just looks a mess.
Maybe i’ll just Tank fully in Shadowlands. /shrug

I wish I could give you a reason. I’m building up my balance druid and elemental shaman instead. I am using my mage to work on Legion achievements mostly since I quit before I could unlock the allied races.

Ports spoiled me a long time ago. I hate having to rely solely on hearthstones and whatnot on my alts, like a peasant. Other than that, I don’t really feel much difference in any class/spec anymore beyond range/melee. Tanks and healers have way more flavor in their play styles than any dps.

Why stay as a Mage?

Go look at Warlock, SPriest or any other caster then come back and be thankful for how great your class is.

Can’t…

Not when melee doesn’t suffer from the caster ideology of Blizzard that casters maximize damage when they stand still yet current raid design is all about forcing movement and latest rental power (corruption) forces even more movement.

Mages as a class are really hurt by RoP, Blizzard has to consider every spell can and will be abused via rental powers and RoP. Look at how over the top Fire currently is with proper rental powers being abused by combustion within a RoP window

Whats wrong with destro ?

From a PvE standpoint, all warlocks are seen as the least desireable caster, and they aren’t a spriest or fire mage for raids.

Pull quick/die fast doesn’t suit any of the locks toolkits, so hopefully the nerfs to AoE caps stops the pulling the dungeon in under 10 pulls meta that trickles down to pugs that do it in 35 pulls a lot slower and 15 keys lower.

Why did you pick mage in the first place? If it was to “outperform”, then your motivation was sour from the start…

Only you can decide who you are, and picking a class for any reason other than it “connects” with you on a gameplay or lore level, is asking to quit. If that’s the case, may as well save yourself a lot of time and money - try and figure things out what could be fun for you, personally, emotionally. And if it’s just competitive drive, maybe there’s something more productive you are being called to do with your time…

Exactly, I dont care if flame patch only does upto 1% of the average players health if they stand in it for 8 seconds… its the rp man.
Thats why i use azerite globules for upto .025% of someones health if it goes off. Everything needs to explode.

I just leveled a mage for the first time, loved it, and decided to make it my new main for two reasons:

  1. Teleports/Portals – changed my life, cant believe all the time i wasted traveling on other characters. I just did the questline to get The Crucible of Flame necklace power to rank 4 and it took a fraction of the time it would have taken me on any other class
  2. Invisibility – being stuck in combat has been an everpresent issue in this game and one that personally drives me insane… the ability to just hard-force drop combat every 5 minutes is just such a QOL bump for me i had to stick with it.

some things drive me nuts like @#*! BLINK but i still think those two things outweigh the cons.

Outside of these windows, its like tank dps.

Frost can work

like anything its not always the spec but the player GG cvark

When you get all your Fire gear and play it perfectly, you feel like the Firelord when Sozin’s Comet is in the sky.

If you need someone else to convince you to play your mage, it’s probably best that you try out a different class to see what it’s like. Nobody can tell you what you like or why you should play something. It’s a game, it’s meant to be fun. If you’re not having fun on your mage, try and find something that is fun for you.
