If they are putting most of their efforts into the model updates, with plans to release fishgobs a bit later, it would make sense they wouldnât do much if anything on the textures of the current models, but instead update the skeleton/animations.
My only issue with that is ⊠weâre getting attached to (and interacting the most with) those old models. The GilGoblins big moment is 8.2 by the looks of it, theyâre battle against Azshara. A characters looks does play a big part in how they are received (just look at Sylvie for that), so the idea that weâll be partying it up with bland, generic, color-coded GilBlins for an entire patch (only for them to get a unique look AFTER their time of relevance passes) ⊠just feels weird to me.
Also they also do it because they donât want to tip their hands to quick and let players go back and forth between Vulpera and Gilblins and which is favored. I get the feeling they get perverse enjoyment at these discussions.
Vulpera are mechanically closer to being a complete AR, but they are inhibited by their potential for future lore (we really do need to see their participation going forward).
The GilGoblins have a lot of mechanical elements working against them (not least of all, we donât even know if Grapplehammer will be in Nazâjatar), but they do have potential for interesting future stories alongside their allied slave races.
Honestly, with BOTH groups being previous slave races ⊠Iâm good with either. I would prefer that it be Gazlowe be the recruiter for whichever group we get; but at the end of the day there are thematic matchups with Core Goblins for both.
You know, I find it funny how every goblin player out there almost universally is totally cool with Gazlowe, but he can never do anything of significance with us as players because of neutrality.
I feel like heâs sort of thrown neutrality out the window with his Greecemonkey participation. The remainder of the Steamwheedle is supporting the Horde under the table, but they do have the ability to claim innocence on their parts because they arenât being obvious about it.
Gazlowe in contrast ⊠heâs outright supporting the Horde War Effort. He may have no personal animosity towards the Alliance, but the fact that heâs leading up the Hordeâs efforts in Mechagon is a pretty stark example of his current allegiances. He may as well pull the bandaid off finally.
Honestly, with the Grizzeks quest hinting that Gazlowe is involving himself more and more into Goblin politics ⊠I guess I can only hope that Blizz is really building him up to finally replace the big blob (but ⊠maybe that is a vain hope).
Vain hope, that implies that Blizz would actually do something itâs Goblin playerbase would resoundingly approve of, which means it wonât happen. I mean come on, they made Thrall throw us under the bus to keep Gallywix in power. That was just bad. Make Sally in charge or something.
I think itâs just this. When we find that gilgoblinâs journal he seems at least average intelligence, and there was a deleted quest in which you retrieve a note written by a gilgoblin who also writes coherently (and it was addressed to king gurboggle, so he would have to be able to read it as well)
Honestly, its really difficult to guess how the GilGoblins will come out if they are allowed a model upgrade alongside the Core Gobs. There is a lot of potential with them as a species, provided Blizz is willing to give them some TLC (and choose to make them something unique, as well as familiar; rather than just blue water clones of standard Goblins). Kelpin Druids for example may be interesting.
That being said, I will choose to hold out hope that Gazloweâs current strong presence in 8.2 signifies a shift in Horde Goblin leadership as wellâŠ
It would actually make a lot of sense for Gilgoblins to come right on the heels of the Goblin model update. If you are already in there working on it, why not just add more options for an AR while you are at it?
