Giga confused with PvP gearing in S1

Preamble - I haven’t played since MoP. Honor gear was easy, straight forward, get honor, get gear, done.

What the frick is going on in S1? I’m hearing/reading there’s conquest, bloody, and tier gear? And crafted gear? Huh? You also get free gear, and there’s a quest for gear? What the frick is an embellishment? You can buy materials to craft PvP gear?

Who designed this system? What was wrong with just putting the PvP gear in a vendor and letting me buy it for tokens? :sob:

Anyway, how do I know what to buy, craft, get for free etc? Does anyone know if there is somewhere I can just see the BiS stuff?

you can still just buy gear from vendors, but you won’t be minmaxing like every other sweatlord for the next couple weeks. it only gets confusing when you’re having to factor in embellishments, which are like blizzard’s whoops-we-broke-pvp bandaids attached to gear, and proper stat management for your pvp-statted tier pieces.

How big of a difference will just buying conquest gear make versus doing all of the extra stuff like crafting, embellishments, bloody etc? Am I cooked?

Not having any embellishments, no crafted gear and lacking bloody gear is likely to cause you great sadness.

why do I keep seeing tier gear mentioned in PvP gearing guides/threads? are we supposed to be wearing tier gear or something?

There are tier pieces you will want. One is awarded for “free” after attaining 1600 in the form of token trade in. Allows you to choose an epic tier slot, then the catalyst is used to convert another epic item you buy in to a tier piece. That will give you 2p.

I haven’t been on the retail forums in quite some time, not sure.

So if I’m getting this right I can buy a tier piece and use a “catalyst” to convert a piece of Conquest gear into a tier piece?

Buy any tier optional piece. Helm, Shoulders, Chest, Legs, Gloves from conq vendor → go to catalyst → convert to tier.

I tend to just go on to Seramate and look at whoever was top last season on ladder, look at what they chose and just copy it. Ex. Smexxin for fury warrior, Bigdam for enh, etc.

Jeez I had no idea, thanks!

I was wondering why there was no set bonus for PvP gear

Is tier gear worth it? Does it have vers, or is it just like PvE tier gear?

Big difference

This week you can have 2 Conquest items, 2 WPvP items, 3 crafted items or craft weapon. You would be several pieces behind and likely not have Tier or sockets.

Grab the WPvP quest it’s so easy to get the 2 WPvP items. I went with Bracers/Belt for WPvP items because I can put sockets in those slots. Now you up 2 items and 2 sockets over people who don’t do this.

Deep fried

It can be most are just a % damage upgrade for playing the game. Some Tier sets are better than others for PvP.

It’s PvE tier. The catalyst will tranform PvP into the PvE version stats you see on WoW head.

Some slots might have Versa though. However this is also a great way to get better stats for builds like Haste/Crit/Mastery if they are valuable. Some PvE tier has massive Haste and some Versa. Which certain specs love.

Almost always worth it, can open the item set list by pressing “Shift + J” and flipping to “Item sets” tab, mouseover to see yours and other specs.

For Destro:

  • (2) Set: Incinerate critical strike chance increased by 20%. Conflagrate critical strike chance increased by 25%." (These are reduced by half in pvp fairly sure)
  • (4) Set: When Conflagrate critically strikes, your fire damage is increased by 5% for 6 sec.

Fugggg ok I’m going back into the oven. Guess I’m gonna have to cook up these pieces of gear so I don’t get scrambled

You can still do precisely that

Now we just have options. If you don’t min/max it doesn’t really put you that far behind.

Yeah it might be a little information overload but it’s still pretty hard to mess up. However you proceed you’ll be mostly fine. Go after conquest and make sure you research tier acquisition/viability, that’s pretty much it

It’s okay for there to be a little bit of an unknown element in the game. It’s an MMORPG at the end of the day.

Same.

Even the videos are confusing. What the hell is up with the crafting orders. I have to go find some other guide to learn about embellishments?? Sockets?

I like gear progression, I don’t want to interact with the crafting.

EDIT

Oh, I just read about “the catalyst.” What is this nonsense.

I am sure I can figure this out, but I just want to heal some 2v2 and run BGS.
