Ghostcrawler has been tweeting about his experience just messing around coming back to WoW after 6 years and tweeted this when he was about to hit 50:
5. Some of y’all suggested locking experience at level 49 to avoid the harsh transition from new max level character into many patches of max level content. Does this just mean using the old twink NPC? I assume so since it sounds like this change was hotfixed in (and ergo no UI)
As someone who likes to do BG’s, this was exactly my experience. As soon as I hit 50, I know I’m going to get smashed by raid/mythic+ geared ilvl 125+ players and the pvp vendor only sells ilvl 68 gear to people who actually gear up through pvp.
Players who like to do BG’s might as well not even go up to 50 because they’re going to be stuck on Blizz’s hamster wheel of raid/mythic+ gearing before they can actually enjoy a BG. To add insult to injury, level capping at 49 puts players in a separate queue and BG’s won’t pop unless enough level 49 capped players are queueing to fill a BG, which is highly unlikely.
I made this character two weeks ago and if you check my BG history it’s been very positive. The templating and lack of corruption means if you know your class well you’ll still perform very well.
Yes there will be groups of 20k+ and one or two 30k plus gear but many of them are surprisingly bad.
I’d say it’s well worth your time to just do BGs anyway as they seem quite fun now.
There would be some onus on the player to get essences/cape and get to 105-115. I did a few lower M+ key and a heroic raid run where we failed at N’zoth. But as OP states this is still far from 125, I’m 10 ilevels lower than that.
Ghostcrawler drove me nuts sometimes, and he’s not at all good at PR, but the flipside of that is he doesn’t mince words and you at least knew where he stood.
He also didn’t let systems take over the game. We could use more Ghostcrawler in WoW these days.
Mythic+ gearing was broke in bfa, it literally THE only effective gearing method if you wanted to end game. That is why they are nerfing mythic+ drops.
I see where you’re coming from, but this is literally “I shouldn’t be penalized for not playing the game!”
There’s going to be catch up gear in the pre-patch which is bad enough, It’s literally a slap in the face for people who put the time and effort into gearing up and as you say yourself will be screwed over by Blizzard’s “hamster wheel of raid / mythic + gearing”
dunno why you ignore that the systems used to be completely different? Are you saying the founders that had the game for the highest sub counts were wrong in their implementation of separate gearing paths for pvp and pve?
If so, a LOT of players disagree with you and there are VERY good reasons that the two gearing paths should be treated very differently.
I mean the game’s almost always been PvE to gear, even in expansions where there was specific PvP gear that leveled up in PvP, PvE gear still was in certain slots (trinkets, etc)
Your fun never ends, and the people who will shame you for your iLvL get to play with themselves, again.
Legit not even sure why people would do this in casual, it’s not ranked or anything
Happened to me the other day, do you want a healer in your battleground or not? I think most were happy I was there instead of another dps, no matter how geared.
And given the short time left in the expansion and the amount of grinding required even to earn echoes to buy essences, even trying to do that would simply mean running out of time without getting 4 rank 3 essences.
