I made a very similar post to this back in the day that unfortunately got lost in the forum migration.
I’ll get to the point…Ghost wolf needs to be renamed to Wolf Form or Ancestral Form, this would then allow Blizzard to give us new forms that were not based on an outdated system that most new characters have no idea about (Glyphs).
With the addition of Elemental Spirits, our Feral spirts now manifest into different elemental wolves, which are Fire, Lightning, and Ice, with that said, the Shaman forms can be and should be based on their specs.
Enhancement - Lightning Wolf.
Elemental - Fire Wolf
Restoration - Ice Wolf.
Dead - Ghost Wolf.
It would work similar to how the Class Mount works, as your change specs, the skill changes as well to give you the appropriate element.
As a side note: If you could burn, zap, or freeze critters as you ran over them, that would be hilarious and appreciated.

But what’s wrong with ghost wolf?
Nothing is wrong with the skill itself, it is just kind of plain, and hasn’t been updated since WoD (7 years ago)

Let’s not use the “but new players” as an argument anymore. And glyphs are important to an entire profession, so let’s not cut them out.
I very much disagree. I shouldn’t be bound to one form because of my spec. It’s why I hate the Shaman class mount.

I don’t know if the shamans in wow had a story about the form but Eq did it was deep,touching meaningful .That first intro was one i still remembered,your ancestors came to you in a vision in the form of the wolf . Wished they had that in wow.

Personally Ghost Wolf should be renamed to “Spirit Form”, I’d love if Soul Shapes actually could be a form we choose via Glyphs or Barbershop, I’m in love going Night Fae strictly because my Soul shape is a Gryphon (would love it replacing my Ghost Wolf Form), it really double downs in my head of actually being a Wildhammer Clan Dwarf.
In a perfect world, I’d also love a barbershop option or glyphs to change Enhancements feral spirits into whatever chosen… imagine this “A Wildhammer Dwarf unleashes 2 Feral Gryphon Spirits 
…” it be so aesthetically pleasing.
Alternatively knowing It might be too much work into Shamans, perhaps Elemental version based on specs for Ghost Wolf (can be changed via Glyphs or Babershop), where theirs a Fire Ghost wolf with embers and smoke coming off its body leaving flame foot prints for Elemental spec, Lightning/Wind Wolf crackling with energy leaving Lightning prints behind for Enhancement, Water with droplets and currents of water within its body leaving wet puddle prints behind for Restoration. Most importantly your able to pick and choose at a Barbershop or Glyphs incase you’d rather be a Restoration Shaman with say the fire version.
I know it’s not a huge priority but simple things like that would go such a long way.
Also please not to forget all core races are still in desperate need for our totems to be visually updated to be on par with the HD models of newer races. “
Edit: sorry for the wall of text, I’m just very passionate about my Shaman and the class in general and just hope we can make Shamans even better then how it is aesthetically
