Getting to 1950 Rating for the Illusion

Saw the Holy Fire illusion for weapon enchantments, and I guess now’s a good a time as any to relearn how to PVP. I’ve never made a push for an elite set or a limited timed PVP set before. I’m willing to get a little sweaty here though.

What are you recommendations for someone not super familiar with PVP to go about getting this rating so I can get this enchantment?

Any suggestions on a spec to learn that you feel is the easiest to break into PVP with?
Should I look for an arena partner or is 1950 rating something that’d be easier to do solo?
Any addon recommendations or website/youtube channel with some PVP pointers?

Oh yea youll easily get it by playing a broken class like feral, hunter, and frost mage

If you haven’t PvP’d in awhile, temper your expectations a bit. I’m not sure how the MMR fix has affected things, but before at 1800 in SS you ran into a lot of former R1 players.

Play a class that can carry and works well with others: SPriest, Feral and BM all fall into that category. Ele might as well but I’m not sure how it does at higher ratings as more seasoned vets will know how to deal with ascendance.

Imo it’s always better to find a 2’s partner. You can chat over Discord to coordinate and will learn how to play with each other way better than a revolving lobby of random people.

Good luck!

Binge watch a lot of skillcapped, get keybinds set up, hop into Battleground blitz and go to town. BGB is the most inflated for getting rewards.

You only need to get 1950 now?

Yeah. Enchant is 1950. Elite weapon skins are 2100.

I mean just queue blitz? You’ll get it after about 100 games with no skill required

That’s wild

yeah, imo they should have put the weapon skins at 1950 and kept the enchant at 2100, but ohwell.

Such a weird change, but whatever.
This is nice for me though; I’ve never cared about the weapon skins as I’ve always used the invisible monk fist weapons, but at least this makes it even easier to get the enchant I guess.

Eh the illusion is pretty mid in my opinion.

I’ll still collect it for the giggles.

Starter mmr in ss is 1770 right now so unlikely to fight a lot of r1s

If you just 3-3 your way can just ride the mmr to free 1800 rn

just play hpal. or mage, they have like 4 blinks and thunder storm. it’s free real estate.

I hate to say it, but just play BM hunter if you want it that bad. It’ll be much easier.

Here’s my take on this. I’ll presume you’ll push on only one bracket and my recommendation is based around what would have the simplest strategy to get there so you only need to learn a few things.

Solo Shuffle: Hpal
You can get to 1950 just PVE healing and trading cooldowns. I face plenty of hpals without repentance selected and that don’t go for CC ever. It’s not rocket science to use repentance and spam that on the enemy healer when positioning allows, so if you do that you’ll make a really big impact.

If you have a healing background, picking up another healer might be easier than picking up a DPS. If you have no background, I would say that most healers have a higher skill floor than some DPS specs (not necessarily a lower ceiling, mind you).

Also healers get instant queues so you can just spam games to 1950.

Shuffle as a healer is the best way to get the enchant IMO. Blitz CR gains have been nerfed big time ever since its inception and it seems that playing low rated games feel pretty bad.

Blitz: Rogue, feral, boomy, hunter (BM/MM), death knight.

Though mistweavers are pretty good in Blitz, at lower ratings (1950 is “”“”““low””“”“”" due to massive blitz inflation from pre-nerf) you might not win because the DPS just isn’t there. Game modes are skewed towards you dying if you pick objectives, so even if you livelord you’ll eventually die (flag stacks, kotmogu damage orb, flag caps, etc.)

These other classes I mentioned are pretty good at killing things, sitting bases and/or capping bases and DKs have some death grip techs to turn Eye of the Storm maps around as well as gripping flag carriers. At lower ratings you will likely have the biggest impact on matches with these, and even at higher ratings as well.

Downside of blitz is though it may be “less stressful”, you will be sitting in queue significantly more than shuffle and you will gain less rating per win, so it’s an overall longer grind.

IMHO its not worth it its basically a blob of yellow goo or golden good ig looks not worth

Thanks a ton for all the replies! Didn’t expect to wake up to this many

Awesome - I actually have been REALLY enjoying fire mage and have been curious about frost, so I’ll dip my toes into that. Hunter’s also been cooked this expack I feel.

I think the last time I took PVP seriously was either Mists or Warlords, so trust me, my expectations are VERY tempered. The nice thing about having spare time is having more time to absolutely @#$% up and keep doing so until I get it right. :joy:

As much as I dig the usual reddish hues you guys normally get, this one is so paladin-coded I’d have FOMO nightmares if I didn’t try. XD

Thank you for the thorough reply!! I do have a background in healing actually, so I’ll definitely give solo shuffle a shot. From the sounds of it, I may be having to dust off my old hunter too.

Would you guys say goblin or Velf? Gob’s my usual go-to but I could see the teleport being useful.

Glad that helped. Post results after you’ve made some progress!

Fire isn’t great in PvP right now, but frost can be fun if you’re used to being a caster.

Your best bet for easy, unhealable damage is probably going to be BM Hunter. It’s like 3 buttons and you don’t die and after a short while people just can’t heal you.

That’s just the single MoP enchant and season 2 dragonflight (the best enchants in the game) they’ve been pretty widely different since then.
