Getting Rank 10 - Is it worth it now with BWL out?

are you done or keep ranking?

dunno what the rest of you guys are talking about but warlock r10 gear is just about as good as t2. More importantly, there’s NO guarantee that you’ll get your raid gear any time soon when you consider drop rates and competition. You might as well work towards any upgrades you get.

I’m slowly climbing the PVP ladder because as a hybrid there just isn’t any better gear until ZG and AQ. The PVP set let’s you play any spec just fine.

I really don’t know. The epic set is actually pretty BiS for both cat and bear but I’m definitely going to rejoin real life for a while and gauge how long R13 would take to obtain and pace myself better. The brackets are so dynamic with lots dropping out, it might be easier than I think or it might be more of the same for another two-three months. The crawl from R9 to R10 took three to four weeks (can’t really recall since it’s all a blur now). I’m guessing it would have been much easier if I started later with a less crowded field or if I had transferred to a less competitive realm.

Armor sets are like Pokémon: gotta get them all. :stuck_out_tongue:

holy… Is that really how long it takes? I guess I’ll throw in the towel now at R6. Pretty sure my wife will divorce me if I sink that much time in.

It just depends on how hard you want to go, you gain much more by going harder faster.

As an example, i was rank 8 for i think 4 weeks? Because i was playing somewhat “casually” and playing in “most” of my freetime. However i went from from rank 8 92% to rank 10 8% in 2 weeks because i just played really hard for those two weeks.

The difference between half committing to ranking and going into full commitment mode can actually save you tons of time “no lifing”

So if you can REALLY push hard for one or two weeks you can end up making progress that could take you over a month if you played more casually

Would you rather play 10-20 hours a day for two weeks and be done. Or would you rather play 6-12 hours a day for a month or more for the same net gain in rank?

A large chunk of your time investment is just getting enough honor to beat your 20% decay, any time you can invest past that is where you get real progress, just dabbling in pvp isn’t enough to make rank pushes

I don’t think I’ll ever be able to hit it that hard (10-20 hours a day) ever, unfortunately. I’m probably looking at 15 hrs a week average, maybe 20-30 as my hardest. I guess its just going to take me a long time to get there.

If I play scarcely one week, after maybe hitting it pretty hard, will I lose progress? Or will it just not increase from what it was?

You lose 20% every week, so if you really want to hit rank 10, your best bet is to try to schedule like taking a week off for the final push

The farther up you go the more you decay, you can’t really take it slowly

What people seem to fail to realize is that you will never reach the higher ranks without at some point playing the game all day, every day for multiple weeks. You can casually rank up to a point, but at a certain time your decay will outpace your casual honor accumulation. The higher your rank, the more you need to play just to maintain the rank and then even more to actually progress.

It’s relative to your server, which is another reason it’s kind of meaningless as a measurement. You might breeze to R10 if no one else is PVPing on your realm. I’m on a high pop Alliance PVP server with plenty of rankers. If I recall correctly, at one point there were almost 3,000 Alliance I was competing with. Since the AV nerf that number has dropped considerably.

It was never worth it. Nothing in this game is worth spending 10+ hours per day, every day, to obtain. Your time is much better spent elsewhere to be perfectly honest. This game is fun, but it’s just a game, and unless you’re getting paid to play, it shouldn’t be a full time job. Take it from someone who wasted a lot of good years chasing after gear, mounts, and titles. Play, have some fun, but do it in moderation. Go outside and experience the other things life has to offer as well.

It depends on what you value. In pvp I value stamina extremely highly with popular spell school resistance as a close second and SP as a third. Being obnoxious to kill is my goal in pvp.

So PVP gear typically has a lot of stamina on it so its pretty valuable (to me).

On the flip side if you just want to raid, then not many pieces are all that much better. Not just that, but you’ll be replacing some soon. Also your stat weighting will be different. Getting that extra 6% hit is pretty important so you may want to build around it.

With that in mind, ZG will eventually be released and theres the bloodvine set with good hit rating that might replace your pieces.

Finally, a lot of gear from AQ is just flat better so the amount of time it takes you to get 10 vs AQ to release should impact your decision. Will it really be worth it to grind all that honor just to have it all replaced a few months from now?

Also as a fellow warlock who is working on the set if I can get r10 that’s one less warlock to gear up

Some pieces are pretty good but absolutely not worth the amount of time it will take to get there.

Personally I was considering rank 10, but after hitting rank 8 today I’m going to go back to levelling :). Will always be into PvP though, so who knows about future ranks.

it is not exactly about honor you, know

it is never about your own progress, but everyone on the server. your progress is based on your standing amongst other players

I’ll add this; there is too much incentive to be a bot/afk/leech. Don’t want to spend countless hours/days/weeks beating your head against the wall? Just coast! Often I sacrifice honor by stealthing south to get the team the Lt and Commander honor bonuses. As such I have lots of opportunities to see people parked (often stealthed) near high-conflict areas doing nothing but demoralizing the team and soaking honor. Some of these folks were the ones I looked up to while I’ve been ranking up because they had the gear I was grinding towards and were always a few ranks ahead of me. I thought they must be pvp gods. I was disheartened to discover a few of them had “earned” their honor on the backs of those actually trying their best to fight the good fight. If Blizzard does nothing else about the sorry state of AV, I hold out hope it will come up with a method to weed out those that repeatedly back-stab their own faction to obtain their gear.

It’s never been worth it.

The calculation in the ‘old’ days was that you could get r10 gear 100% of the time if you put in the time vs. ?% of the time in raids depending on drop rates and dkp.

Nowadays, your server and faction might change your calculation. If your server and/or faction is very competitive in PvP ranking, you will have to put in a lot more time.
