Why is this still a thing? How are more people not upset about this? Is there a way to avoid it besides locking myself on a dead RP realm?
I’ve been sharded while fighting a rare, rare gone.
I’ve been sharded while banking, suddenly bank gone, CD wasted.
I’ve been sharded during a Grand Hunt, completely losing progress (really frustrating when doing it solo)
Just now I was sharded, 3min from a ‘Spreading the Light’ rare that I dumped 20 crystals into, after also dumping 20 more crystals into another flame to start the WQ. New shard has no flames lit, all my progress and crystals lost.
I can’t be the only person who experiences it this often. Does everyone else just grin and bear it, or is there a trick I don’t know about? Sharding should only happen when joining groups or moving to a new zone, not randomly without warning or consideration for the circumstances.
It’s honestly such BS, it’s close to becoming a quit moment for me. It’s not even about the inconvenience. It’s the lack of respect. It shows no care for player experience. It completely ruins any immersion, reminding you that you don’t belong to a realm anymore; you don’t have a home. You exist on broken shards.
This has happened to me far too many times, and it has NEVER been to my benefit. The game needs to learn that if I have dumped crystals into all or most of the flames, that it should phase players to ME, not remove my progress.
Funny enough, this happened to me more when I played Anniversary than it has happened to me in Retail. Retail is a lobby game now, so it’s Dorn - teleport - instance - teleport. There is almost no medium time unless I take a flight path to a Delve entrance and being phased on the flight doesn’t matter.
But in Anniversary, I would make sure I was safe before I pulled stuff because the game would shard me, all the mobs in the hyper spawn spot would respawn, then I would get killed and have to run back and possibly lose all my buff and consumes, which is like adding an hour on to whatever I’m doing. It was extremely annoying and I don’t play Anniversary anymore, it’s too cringe, I don’t even understand why it exists in its current form, it isn’t authentic to anything, it’s an abomination. Better off just playing SoD.
I agree, rejoining WOW a few months ago I had no idea what was going on. It is complete BS not being able to find someone who ganked you when you log into a better geared toon in world pvp because, it logs you into a shard where they are not even there. I log out and log back in in less than 5 seconds in another toon and I’m not even in the same game.
