Is it worth it to join pugs? I hardly ever see people advertising for it, and I’d like to get into raiding before the next phase. At least to get a little practice, I only ever did MC in classic.
Any tips on finding groups or things I should know or do before giving it a shot?
I’ve done some pug raids with my ally and have had some really solid runs (for example, I was in a pug half guild run Monday and we cleared Kara in a few hours including one shotting Nightbane).
It’s kind of hit and miss but there are pugs all the time on my server. I don’t know about the situation on Mankrik, or how things will be with T5, but I’m guessing you can find decent pugs if you try, even as a rogue which may make it a bit more challenging.
An advantage of PuG raiding is being able to raid if and when you feel like it. Some disadvantages are things generally taking longer, e.g. longer to fill the raid, longer to explain fights or clear content, due to wipes.
And also potential for always having to compete for the same pieces of gear, whereas in a guild run, it’s possible (maybe probable) that if a piece drops that you want and someone else gets it, you have a better chance to get it next time.
The pugs on whitemane generally do ms/os with 1 item soft reserved. So you can still go for that one crazy item you need and have a shot at most of the gear. Seems to work well.
The experience will be very hit or miss, expect that going into it. Some pug groups are great and you’ll one shot everything, some on the other hand can be god awful.
It seems like a lot of guilds are pugging at least a few people into their raids so check out the people forming it and see if they have a decent track record. If you’re looking for a guild this can be a great way to get into one so put your best foot forward.
Yeah actually I wouldn’t mind a casual guild. I’m off on weekends only, but sometimes I have stuff to do so I can’t be available, rarely though. I’d like a guild where I can just hop on and play and not really be expected to raid constantly.
But I still have a lot of free time, so I do get to play a lot and I can be on any time during the weekend.
How would I go about finding a casual raiding guild
It depends on your social web… i have a few friends that has no ties to the bigger raids, but get invited on occasion when needed, but there is several if and buts, but yea its fully doable…
As for pug raiding also sorta same deal as mostly of those pugs are set up by alts usually from the bigger raid guilds and people they know get invited, again your social standing matters alot…
Plenty of kara raids on my server. Gruul/mag are a lot more rare but still out there. You really ought to just join a guild though. Theres one out there for everyone, even the ultra casual with little/no experience
Lol you’re in literally the most populated pool of players for any server in the game. You’ve got hundreds of guilds to choose from. Just watch lfg/trade chat
Run heroics with people. Make friends, raid with their guild as a PUG. Maybe even join a guild, but if you want to stay solo, I know some guilds are open to regular PUG players.
Our guild can now generally run two gruul/mag raids. Previously our GM would pick someone from his friends list of those who were interested in raiding. Unlike what I’ve seen from other guilds’ adverts, we don’t put stuff on reserve for guild only. Item drops, guild members and pug player rolls. If pug wins roll, he gets the piece outright (ie doesn’t have to pay gold). If guild member wins roll, they use their epgp points.
So there are possibilities, without joining a raid guild.
