Getting held hostage

Getting stuck in a doomed key for 25 minutes sucks… Just had a run where the healer and tank were clearly not ready for 10s, and let’s just say it didn’t go well.

We were in Ara=Kara and had 19 deaths before the first boss. Three of us wanted to call it, but because two didn’t, we were forced to keep slogging along on what was CLEARLY a failed group. There was no way we were getting past the bosses…

I almost never leave keys early… I could count on one hand the times I have, but sometimes a group is just unfixable. Two people shouldn’t be able to hold the rest of the party hostage when it’s clear the run is failed.

What a garbage system that they’ve added.

if thing not going to end well use
/abandon
its a group vote without the debuf

  • Vote to Abandon: To avoid the deserter penalty, the group must initiate and successfully complete an “/abandon” vote within the dungeon. This allows everyone to leave without penalty, acknowledging that sometimes a key is simply unfinishable for various reasons.

We tried, and the tank and healer held us hostage.

Just leave, it shouldn’t happen often enough to be a problem for you.

You get the mark after just one time don’t you? If not… my god I wish I would have known that 35 min ago lol.

So basically exactly what I said would happen months ago when the feature was announced. Great.

Yep if only players who actually do M+ would have been listened to.

you will not get a mark but keep doing it you will

one way to fix that if 3/5 players vote if the 3 vote then it should have counted

It might suck getting held hostage right now while the system is new but I think it will be good for pugs in the long run. Just means you need to be more picky about what groups you join and I think that’s worth it to prevent the weirdos that ragequit after a single wipe(or worse, the people that troll by leaving right after it starts) from sabotaging a group.

Good to know… I thought it was just leave one time, get a mark until you “work it off” type of thing.

I’ll probably never have to worry about it again, but at least now I know just in case.

They need to ONLY implement the deserter/abandon system in keys listed as Completion. If Completion is NOT selected, Timed and Standard runs should be exempt from the deserter/abandon system. This way the petty people taking hostages can sit in LFG all day waiting for each other to fill groups, and normal players that are balanced and medicated can do business as usual in timed and standard groups.

I just reached 2k io without a single leaver or being held hostage, and at least one run was pretty danged scuffed.

Again, you can still leave. Nobody is holding you hostage. Keys like that are so rare that you will almost never get the Mark, and if you do, its easily clearable by finishing a key.

There is no such thing as being held hostage. Just leave.

Its after repeated ditches.
As long as you aren’t a frequent leaver, you should be fine.

There is if you don’t want the “mark”. It’s already a pain in the butt to get into pugs as a dps. I was just unaware it was not a leave once and you get the mark thing.

Also 2k is what? 6’s? You can carry bad players through lower keys. 10s and up with the gear we have now. Not quite as easy. And when it’s a tank and healer that are the issue like in this key i was just in. That makes it even worse.

I dont mean this too harshly, but how did you not know? This has been talked about to death.

I don’t live on the forums, nor really pay attention to that kind of thing since it hardly effects me.

And yet, here we are. You have called a system that ‘hardly affects you’ garbage, because why? You didnt know about a feature that was added in a game you play?

Called it. I KNEW this would happen and many doubters said nay it won’t. Guessing pugging will die out soon.

Because it is garbage. There’s no reason two players should be able to prevent the rest of the group from quitting without penalty when the majority wants out.

Blizzard has repeatedly said they don’t want to force players to stay grouped with others if they don’t want to, the vote-kick rules are a prime example of that philosophy. Yet this deserter system does exactly the opposite… it forces you to stay in a run with players you no longer want to play with, or be punished for leaving.

It’s a solution in search of a problem. Leavers and trolls were never widespread enough to justify this system. In all my years running keys, I probably can’t count on both my hands the number of times I’ve actually seen someone bail for no reason. The real problem was a small, vocal minority upset that groups wouldn’t carry them through their failed keys, and now, thanks to this system, those same players can hold everyone else hostage until the timer runs out.

It simply was not, and is not needed.
