Sorry if this is a stupid rant/‘question’, these races have me sooo frustrated.
HOW are you people getting gold in these races and getting these titles?!? Im looking for literally ANY racer title for RP purposes and I feel like I am going insane. People say to use lightning rush and that it saves them multiple seconds, but when I try to use it I can’t control the damn thing and I’m flying past every single ring, making me tens of seconds behind the timer.
People say to use the Skyward camera trick, but doing it literally gives me no speed boost and makes me lose even harder. Maybe I’m doing it wrong, IDK. But the fact I have to use some trick that doesn’t even work have the time JUST to barely make it to gold is actually ridiculous.
Can someone who is good at these races PLEASE just tell me your secret? As of rn I am of the opinion that getting gold in Thunderhead Trail reverse and advanced is just literally straight up impossible.
I can beat gold on normal races by about 10 seconds timing the regular 1 bubble boost between the air pocket boosts. Just take your time and first focus on not getting slowed by obstacles or missing rings. As you get practice with the routes you’ll get a better feel for when to use boosts, and if you’re serious about golding everything the practice on the basics will get you there.
Edit: and yeah lightning rush is not helpful unless you know that race and where to use it. Takes away too much manueverability in certain places.
First, learn the cadence of flap forward. Just spamming the button reduces the time you’re at an accelerated speed.
Second, you don’t have to go through the center of rings. Try to shave the side as much as you can on your way around a corner.
They really require ALOT of work, and you really need to focus in to learn the actual courses.
When they were putting out the different cups I learned how bad I was at dragon racing, and really only got halfway to good because I just got so frustrated that it wasn’t fun to me.
No, never use this in a race.
You have to work on it to get the timing right, but it does work.
Basically, unless you’re pointed downward never use the surge forward ability. Always use skyward for forward or upward momentum.

Speaking of titles, is there a racing title for TWW? I did all the races but never got one.

My secret is just flying towards the rings. I don’t know, sky riding is not hard for me at all. Go through rings, keep thrill of the skies buff up, go through gusts of wind to keep my buff up without using vigor.
Watch videos, copy what they do. There are videos for every gold on Youtube.
It takes time and practice for some of us, especially the ones that are near the ground or full of obstacles.
For some people, it’s easy and for others, it’s a real challenge.
I’m in the latter category, but it can be done. Like most things, practice makes perfect.
I use surge forward and skyward buttons frequently in the races. Use the smallest flying mount you have (that helps me tremendously). If you are not mounted when you take the quest, they automatically put you on one of the DF default ones, and those are HUGE, taking up too much screen real estate for me.
For some people that might not matter, but since you came here looking for tips, that’s my biggest one. Make sure you’re on a small mount so you can see more.
Also select the correct color mount. As the Orks say, “the red ones go faster.”

Oh no, don’t use that! Terrible ability.
Get the Aeon Dragonriding Weak Aura.
That alone improves your skill by 80% since you can actually see the speed boost and don’t need to rely on animation cues to know you’re on top speed and when to boost again.
Always use a manhole cover mount for maximum visibility.
