It’s that bad. Delves are a necessity now.
Man I thought they buffed the rewards though?
Delves until maxed out on T8 gear and then jump right in to +7s and have a period of sucking because you’ve not naturally progressed through the lower M+ ranks.
This is the system Blizzard wants.
And people want to make it worse by going back to valor.
But getting in as dps has always been a hassle.
I mean, they have straight up said they dont want this and are looking to fix m+. But saying that freaked people out.

Party lead likely trying to get people they know will carry. I do look for what people say in comments as I’ve usually not been disappointed.
To a +9 GB about a month ago now I remember a hunter basically say ‘I’m going to be top damage and interrupts if you invite me’
They weren’t wrong
.
If players actually do this, it’s a complete player problem. People can’t except to gear solely in T8s, not having done a single mythic +, and no nothing about any of the fights and then say “oh look I’m geared enough now let me do a 7, it’s okay that I don’t know any mechanics in any of these dungeons, I’ll be fine.” And expect it to just go well.
I got my reverse side handed to me in a +2. Delves do not prepare you for that /ilidan voice

It wasn’t what was actually said that freaked people out. It was the way some people quickly lied about what was said that freaked people out. The lie being that they were going to nerf the rewards from delves in order to solve the problem. I was among those initially freaked out. Then I found the interview that caused the upset, and saw that Ion literally said they were happy with the delve rewards.
Are you kidding? I tried to tank a M0 Dawnbreaker with my healer friend to get some practice after being gone for a while, and the 3 random dps were impressively bad. Including a Warlock who had very clearly bought KSM. I don’t blame people for being picky about their +2-4 groups
I think it depends on if they have done M+ before.
My start of season push was a 3 DPS comp: Ret pal + Enhancement Shaman + WW Monk. Besides Ara which appears to hate a 3 melee comp it felt smooth to learn in 7s.
Lost the boys to classic after we got KSM (I think jack went as far as portals tho).
I think the issue is when it’s 3-4 people and both damage and mechanics basics are missing. I’ve had a few 7s I’ve tanked lately where affix just kept on going off (6 stacks on the boss is one hell of a buff). While the success rate is still high I’ve run into ‘generally worse’ parties in the last few weeks.
This is what players have always done, just without delves in the picture.
Go in blind, because they ran the dungeon in heroic and “blasted it.”
Based on their actions, I’m convinced they want to eliminate pugs from m+ entirely. They want m+ to be almost exclusively guild/friend groups, just like mythic raiding, and for the current people who pug to go do delves instead. They’re already adding gilded crests to t11 delves in 11.1 to keep the delvers from wandering.
Its always rough on the lower end. Ive no idea how you fix it either. This problem existed before mythic even.
Good players self select out of that content.
You could always try running your own key, making your own groups.
But that would require effort, I know that can be hard for a lot of people.
Better teaching tools, better visualization and callouts built into the game. Many modern mmos do a much better job at notifying “you will die if you dont do x” than WoW does sadly. Weakauras help a lot, and they do not play the game for you, it’s just a lot of the functionality and information they provide should already be in the game.
So run your own key…
Running your own key is great if you have the key you want for loot/io. Guess I’ll keep running my own keys until I can reroll or get the key I want.
Or play something that isn’t a DPS. Sorry, but DPS will always have a rough time in mplus. There’s like 50+ DPS for every two healers and for every tank.
The only people skipping straight to 7s are doing it with their own group of friends and they aren’t stopping at 7s. Those people went straight to 10s on week one or two.
This mythical problem isn’t happening in pugs. It’s not a problem for the groups where it is happening because they are just carrying a friend anyhow.
If this is happening (spoiler alert: it isn’t happening) it would actually be a group leader problem for taking someone with no experience into their +7.
