So rather than whining hardcore (because I do like Visions…I loathe the timegating that was done, but I like Visions and want more stuff like them), I’ll ask for some help:
8-maskers, what are you doing differently than 5-mask runs?
I run as a tank, and my main downfall is I’m getting absolutely chunked. I can’t pull in an 8-mask the way I can in a 5-mask. I guess I could take it slow? But having only half the sanity means half the time, and the final fight against Alleria takes freaking forever when eye-baiting goes wrong, so I prefer to have as much time for the end (and a spare orb if at all possible) as possible. Yes, I am aware of the sanity pots/NPC buffs, etc., but currently I’m blowing chunks harder than a Saturday night frat house.
Patience is key. Don’t overpull and watch for when your nemesis is going to spawn.
Other than that it’s making sure you can handle each pack as you pull them, whether that’s bursting them down or cc. It’s worth standing there for 10 seconds for a cd to come up than to go in half cocked and possibly fail the run. Mechanic overload is going to happen here and there, so again, watch your pulls. I chose to los a couple of packs out of their area to avoid the patrol mobs that would come by and agro. An overly bolstered nemesis spawn will hit like a truck.
Routing also comes into play so you can avoid the really sketchy packs.
Lastly, if you’re having problems in a specific area try adjusting your route or potentially skipping past some enemies.
Perseverance is big. Keep trying and learning from what kills you. Sometimes its really bad luck or overlaps, sometimes it’s things you can control and overcome.
You got this
I haven’t watched that yet, but I’m sure it’ll help some.
Anyone that’s having a rought time of it, don’t fret.
According to DataforAzeroth as of this morning only 0.011% of accounts have 8 mask SW achievements. 0.0873% have 8 mask Org achievements, and 0.0078% have “the Mad” title.
Time and patience friends.
Forgive me for sounding skeptical, but…are you sure? With only half the sanity due to the Long Night mask…taking things more slowly seems to be the opposite of what we should be doing?
Nemesis procs should take care of that. It’s not random, there’s a counter to your next Hogger (or Gamon). Pace the pulls as necessary to have a proc when you’ll need it.
Anyone have advice for the entrance to the mage quarter? That turtleneck with all the corruptions spawning is brutal as a caster and it’s unavoidable as an ele shaman.
I don’t do it as tank, for sure. I go in as dps, and always always always always ensure I have some sort of cooldowns available on any pull with remotely dangerous mobs.
With 90% sanity loss reduction, and the Nemesis and Multitudes masks, you absolutely have time to wait it out and just sit there while mid-timer cooldowns come back if you need to.
Until this week we’ve been trained to gogogogo, but with all the upgrades you can actually go at a very measured, leisurely pace.
Just remember what packs and what pulls are going to be especially dangerous. If an enemy gets giga-buffed from the vengeance mask, literally just use a movement cooldown and RUN AWAY back down a path you already cleared until his buffs wear off. Maybe wait to pick up potions until you find two of the same color, to massively increase buff time and give you lots of leeway to find a third later.
Blast cooldowns on the pack to murder what you can, then RUN AWAY back all the way into the trade district if you have to, picking off your chasers one by one. You have lots of time, be meticulous, don’t try to tank them, let vengeance stacks wear off
I wish I could upvote, or give a lot more hearts for this response, because it is so true. Patience, self-awareness, and just keeping at it are all the things used when trying an 8 mask for sure.
Heck, there were a few times I was pulling super slow, keeping an eye out for various things, and would still stumble my way into another pack while trying to avoid the ground clutter.
Once your misstep, it can be pretty darn hard to recover. As for being chunked for super high damage, yes that is kind of a pain in the butt.
Passive sanity loss will NEVER be the reason you fail a run so stop letting it pressure you into rushing because that leads to mistakes which will cost the run.
As a tank I ignore potions. I dont run cheap auras so knowing what they all do once you see the bad one is not plausible for me but besides the sanity restore they arent really helpful anyway and unless you dutifully get 3 you risk the power expiring and dealing with the punishment which, if done at a bad time, may end your run…just pull and see the bad potion and maybe correlate that with the sanity restore and keep an eye for those as you go and use them pre or post boss (mini or main) as you see fit. In my 8 mask SW and Org, I literally didnt even bother with ANY potions though and was fine.
Fear Umbric and the entire mage wing. The first pull literally can pop back to back hoggers with all the patrolling garbage. Do the wing first to waste the least time. Save interrupt for the caster miniboss until after his rain of fire and run away from the adds he summons when they die. For Umbric int the AM and eat the polymorph until he teleports. Your ghoul isnt affected by the slow and will stop umbric channeling so do NOT use it if it risks you eating a volley of AM. Plan accordingly if you want to use it. Orb 2x on this fight alone if you must. You can easily save the last for alleria as a safety net
Honestly? Not really a whole lot different outside of specifically having to play a bit more cautiously due to the three additional masks, which for me is basically always: Long Night, Burning Bridge, and Daredevil, but I’m also trying not to rush a ton even on 5 masks that much either, rushing is the easiest way to make mistakes and lose sanity.
Long night is not so bad on its own when you have Multitudes, Nemesis, and Elite Extermination tier 3, it just makes it so you can’t hold as much in one pool, but it gets massively signal boosted as soon as you add on Daredevil, which is when it gets really bad. The major difference in play at that point is you really need to know what has sanity drains and how to avoid them (it also helps that AMS can straight up ignore some of these mechanics too). Burning Bridge is honestly just because it’s annoying and I move a lot even if I don’t need to be.
I do still like drinking the buff potions but do agree they don’t make a huge difference really, if you are going to drink them you need to make sure you can at least drink two of them in quick succession so you at least have a large window to not have to worry about it.
Speaking of consumables however, I didn’t personally try them, but I did read on here someone bringing up a food called Ghastly Goulash, which gives you a 2% HP Regen per second in the Visions, and that sounds incredibly useful just as a small safety net for just about any class.
Stand in the canals and wait a solid minute or so just poking patrols as they come past the tunnel. Your sanity will barely drain and after 5-6 packs are dealt with there shouldn’t be many left roaming around.
You have tons of time. I ended up only using 1 sanity orb because mask of nemesis and dark imagination granted me so much passive sanity.
8 mask is WAY easier than 5 mask from BFA.
1 pack at a time. Of course it will vary spec to spec, but I had zero problems this week. No Orb or Cheat death was needed. Nemesis Mask might be scary in a chain pull situation, but largely nullifies the sanity mechanic.
The funniest part to me though is that a tier 8-11 delve is far worse than the 8 mask. Sure, visions have a “sanity” mechanic and annoying affixes, the mobs in delves though all have 12mil+ plus hp and hit for a quarter of your health every swing/cast.
I strongly suggest bringing some food though to regen health. Between pulls I was oom most of the time sitting on 60-70% hp after the first wing. I believe follower dungeons still let you swipe some Mage Food and then leave.
I just chill. the sanity drain isnt a factor. Be sure where to use an orb (for example I used one on eye boy / magequarter guy / alleria) all before to hit max sanity.
Dont have to masspull. If you happen to need sanity and are in the magequarter you can literally feed it with the little guys endlessly spawning summoning hogger.
Use cds on packs you think you need them on. Its not a race actually. I done it on feral so I can only speak for myself. I done both visions on 8 mask tho and finished them. Same goes for orgrimmar.
I personally used cooldowns on the first pack and the second pack (left route). They need to die fast due to the infinite spawn thats coming on top of them lol.
