Get rid of scaling

it’s made leveling not fun. only thing it did well was the ability to skip bc and cata zones. other than that, it’s made leveling a chore. i know, we have bigger issues right now, but jeez… leveling is just… a long, LONG slog…

Haven’t had the issue,
Haven’t lvled a new toon since Mop.

well, good for you Maeker. unfortunately for me, i’m an altoholic so… it effects me a lot.

Never had that much fun to level since a while. Can finish one zone without out leveling it and being force to travel 15 to 30 min each few level.

Scaling is the only reason areas remain relevant to the player as they level up.

That’s your own problem then.

really? cause, it feels like scaling makes all the zones irrelevant to the player since, you can go off to older/lower-level zones and level there if you want. i mean it takes away the feeling of getting stronger from the player, and instead makes the enemies feel like they’re getting stronger instead.

If zones didn’t scale, you would be spending more time hopping between areas than actually questing. Why? Because how fast war mode/heirlooms help you level up. So scaling helps keep the content around you relevant. Probably the best decision they made for questing in a long time.

so… basically what your saying is that scaling is to keep zones relevant, instead of letting players feel like they’re making progress as they level up. in other words, to try and take the rpg out of mmorpg.

Hate to say it. As I don’t like scaling either. But Classic exists.

Nah scaling is good. I leveled the old zones pre cata 8 times. I’m glad I now have a choice of where to level. I never have to do stv, tanaris or ashenvale ever again.

but Sacro, you did’nt have to do those zones in the first place, you could’ve done stonetalon, burning steppe, and darkshire! (yes, you’ll have to cut-through ashenvale for stonetalon, but still).

You are missing the point. I got really sick of having such a limited choice of where i leveled with the old system. You were typically bottlenecked into one of 2-3 zones, with no alternative. Not to mention leaving most zones incomplete as you out levelled them, or had to do all 3 and spend ages travelling to hope to be able to progress to the next zones.

I’m the exact opposite here. Scaling made leveling an activity rather than a brain dead slog of tedium that let players do more than get their feet wet in missed expansions and storylines.

okay. you make a fair point about being bottlenecked. i hated having to quest in silithus, and more options of places to go IS a good thing, but i still don’t feel like i’m making any progress, and i STILL leave most zones incomplete because i know when the xp-reward starts to slow down, and the quests all turn into kill ‘n’ collect ones. also, ages travelling from zone to zone isn’t THAT bad. i mean… atleast we have mounts so we’re not travelling by foot.

they moved the feeling of progression to the very end of the leveling bracket, so you only feel like you’ve gotten stronger once you’ve outleveled everything. so… you feel like you only get stronger once during the whole grind, and that’s just… not fun.

I used to feel it was terrible for the game, an RPG is all about character progression and scaling mobs take away from that, but I’m leveling my 7th 110-120 and I find myself liking how I can do it in any order that I want.

Leveling through a zone WITHOUT out leveling said zone INCREASES the RPG portion. This way you can actually see the story and it remains relevant.

That and… Similar mobs having grossly different power is silly.

To think that previously you could go to an older zine with grey difficulty bears and kill them super quick when really the only difference is the name and since you’re in. It’s still a bear. And youre an adventurer. Why would bears not scale?

Scaling just makes sense in an rp sense.

because from an Rp-sense your supposed to be getting stronger as you level. instead, you stay the same while the world changes to become more difficult. when we level up, what happens? we need better gear to fight stronger enemies, right? well, not anymore! scaling makes your stronger gear just as useless against normal foes as stronger ones. see that imp in felwood? same strength as that bear in loch modan. it just… makes no sense to me.

You still see progress, just not as much or as fast. It’s so people can have more zone options to quest in, instead of having to skip or abandon them early.
