And DPS Warrior or Ret pallies BiS being nearly entirely leather.
Mail mogs are the worst in the game by far
So I support this idea
Or just keep it as is. Youre just renaming the armors (except cloth.)
It’s actually lighter than you think. In regards to speed, that’s why they gave us talents like Trailblazer and Aspect of the Cheetah lol.
But…but then I’ll be nekkid. I want to tame creatures…not make them run from me
Oh dear you replied to yourself. Overall imho, Mail Gear is way to bulky like you said it Looks like plate. Yes- for over a year and a half since I made this Hunter, I have gone to the Goodwill Bin. I like the sleekness of our BE characters. So, you know very well it is very hard to create a decent looking non bulky mail look. I didn’t mean to put you down in any way shape of form…It is the gear that makes me cringe, if you like it -that is all that matters. IRL I’m a very picky woman and I refuse to look like I’m afraid to show off my assets~
I don’t think Mail needs to go–but by God–make some sets that are solid, or without ugly links and scales.
Every piece of Mail gear looks like it was created by a LARP wannabe.
They’re all just not as pretty as the other sets. Even the most basic can’t compare to the most basic of the other sets.
Leather, Plate, and Cloth are just more aesthetically pleasing.
This was actually my thought. Basically “Oh heck, Dracthyr use mail armour… well, at least I won’t have to show it.”
I am gonna miss my robes when I switch to Evoker.
The game is pure fantasy based. It is for escaping reality. Boob armor in real life would be even worse than straight surfaced armor as it would cause so many of the blows to go right into the centre of the armor.
In real life, mail was far better against arrows and most spears than plate was. Gambesson was overall the most effective type of armor.
Going to have to disagree on the basis of balance reasons.
Otherwise, consider me nodding in agreement with the rest of your post. What you really seem to want and I would agree with is that the gear worn by NPCs representing the class; does not match up well with what players are offered.
My suggestion thus would be this.
Allow Plate Wearers to mog Mail over their gear.
Allow Mail Wearers to also Mog Leather over their gear.
My logic for suggesting this, is based on the fact that until players hit Level 40 in the original game, this ‘was’ their armor. Thus I feel they should be able to use and transmog such items into such appearances.
Oh and bringing back items lost over the years like “Robe of Doan”, would also be good.
medieval archers often used chainmail.
google it neat pictures.
*couldnt find chainmail shamen tho lol
No.
Yes… because ultimately a lot of the “issues” with the various armor types stem from the category names… renaming the categories to be more broad term removes the preconceptions of what the armor should look like from both players and designers alike… without that preconception many designers may be more inclined to design vastly different sets than they currently do.
For example: Renaming Leather to Light Armor can easily result in more armors befitting Monks instead of all the non-tier sets seeming as if they were made for Rogues and Druids only… furthermore, Medium armor could include some sets that lack metal armoring style altogether, adding more “Leather” options to Hunters and Shaman, while also allowing for some more heavier armor designs as well… Shaman could get something like Doomhammer’s Plate in the future as a result.
As for why I didn’t rename Cloth as well… honestly I don’t know what would be a fitting broad category… “Unarmored” adds an entirely different preconception that we don’t want… “Robes” is too restrictive… Light could work for A rename for Cloth too, but then something between Light and Medium has to become the new name for Leather or between Medium and Heavy for Mail…. When all the factors are considered, there isn’t really a good broad category to rename Cloth to.
What about wood armor
Mail armor is fine as its own category, they just need to make better looking sets and pieces. The Horde Darkshore set from the Warfronts should be their benchmark and work up from that.
I heard paper armor was the best against arrows. Check out the “White Armor Army” of Ancient China during the short lived Zhou Dynasty.
why do u want to do that
Classic Dungeons and Dragons has
-No armor
-Light armor
-Medium armor
-Heavy armor
I think this just basically got ported over to WoW.
So if you want a rationalization for Mail existing, the best I can do is “Because the source material had it” and “it’s kind of too late to change it now” As far as hunters wearing mail, well rangers seem to always end up with mithril armor in D&D.
Would be cool if we could pick up other armor proficiencies or if the choice affected our stats and abilities like in ESO, but WoW isn’t really build for this and it’s a bit late to add this now.
the way I see it if you got rid of mail as an armor type and ported everything into leather, you’d have three plate weaers, three clothies, and assuming shammies board the leather train and counting the upcoming new mail class, SEVEN leather wearing classes . . . try competing with six other classes for gear . . .
Mail been in the game since 04. And are you going to make a time machine and tell people in medieval times to not invent chain link or scale mail? Have fun with that. Also have fun trying to convince Blizzard to delete mail armor from WoW.
