Genuinely Had Fun

For what it’s worth, you can call me a cancer for moving onto the next thing. I understand.

I think for me I stuck around way too long in SoD. I liked my guild for a lot of reasons but the writing was on the wall by week 2 of P3.

Suddenly as a high performing DPS in Gnomer (with no time for alts), I’m thrust into a patchwork of a group of more hardcore folks as soon as ST dropped. It was fun we even figured out the slime boss on our own when it wasn’t fixed.

Anyway, as someone who doesn’t have 3+ alts or otherwise am a blue parse and not purple - I’m usually straight up ignored in guild chat. As much as I enjoy discord for raids - the idea of a guild surviving with a core group of people always in general VC is a reason why this game cant keep people.

If the culture of this game could move toward ‘consistent players who are grateful for other players’ that’d be awesome. But it seems to me the average wow player is only nice on grounds of how much you can exchange your help to get their rewards.

Small talk is usually reserved for gear and meta.

This is where I’m going to talk about cata: im transplanting myself from a less than 500 player AU SoD server and now a High Pop Cata server.

Already the general channels are constantly looking for ICC runs. gearscore checks are what I remember from a decade ago - nothing obnoxious. People constantly chatting.

Made a battle net realID friend within 30 mins of starting a worgen
Completely different demographic of players.

Gonna stick with it until I don’t have fun. I’ll try raiding with no expectation of consistency at this point. Already made that mistake putting my trust and time into narcissistic dads lol

Hope the community heals someday. People like me who grift to have fun genuinely aren’t the problem as I’m happy to pay blizzard for a couple more launches. MoP might be another option.

I hope p4 turns out better, I genuinely cared about SoD but my server died and my time genuinely wasn’t really respected much.

I had a lot of fun in different stages of SoD.

for me as a main hunter, i had a BLAST the first 1 hour and 10 minutes into phase 1, then all the hunter nerfs (38 of them to date) and phase 3 with the ranged hunter being the most fun of all since the massive nerf to explosive shot 1 hour into phase 1.

I’m bored, its dull now (even though ranged hunter right now is super fun play style). I’m maxed, maxed on all except for gold - no I am not going to do the hinter/feralas incusion grind. Those events are just boring and lame.

I got PandaSoD this week, D4 s4 this week and starting to get into retail which is probably the hidden reason why SoD was released to begin with (to make us get addicted to a bliz product and convert us over to retail)…

Human nature. People do what’s best for them. Am I going to shame you for leaving SoD? Nah. But you are doing the same thing you accuse others of - you’re putting yourself first at the cost of others because they are no longer giving you something you want.

You have main character syndrome from the sound of it, which seems overly common in Classic players compared to other playerbases. You want others to act in a way you yourself don’t act.

None of this sounds like a SoD issue…

This is really true in general.

The (relatively) short phases create a kind of scarcity issue in the minds of players. They only have much time to get their gear, rep, and so on.

I’m hoping once cap is raised to 60 there will be less of this. But maybe not. I’m feeling very burnt on SoD at the moment. Just been logging to do BFA on alts that aren’t exalted and almost done with that. Skipped the raid last week and the guild keeps asking me if I’m running this week. Might be done with ST. It’s not a bad raid but it’s my least favorite in SoD and the gear just isn’t that good. Wouldn’t mind the staff on my priest for pvp but that’s about it.

You missed the part where my server is down to under 500 people.

Have fun psycho analyzing on the wow forums chud. What a goofy thing to say to someone. You act as if I hadn’t fully considered this.

Also, you have no idea how I participate and am a consistent raider who just so happens to also work 50hrs a week manual labor and blue parse without rep trinkets. It’s you people who genuinely hate people like me who are efficient? I could care less.

It’s a situation. They shut down the only RP server. the one I was on is basically next my guy.

I guess you’re angry I’m choosing to have fun with blizzard products? Is that it, friend?

The only thing goofy is you flipping out. I didn’t read the rest of your post but I imagine it’s some sort of cope to reconcile your main character syndrome. Quit while you’re behind, lol.

Blockquote “I didn’t read”

Average respect you get from a stranger in WoW these days. L

Flipping out?:rofl::rofl: Man dude I’m sure your ex’s have some wild stories

My whole issue with your post is that it’s essentially a “dear diary” about issues you have with other players then find a reason to blame it on SoD.

You know what’s wild? Hoping Blizzard manages the interpersonal behavior of it’s community.

I had fun in SoD but Blizzard killed my enthusiasm for it. I was the top warlock on my server for a while and was full bis both p1 and p2. Now I barely have any motivation to return to SoD especially with how I hear incursions have gone. Having more fun on Cataclysm’sm right now.

This is how people that are strangers are viewed in the world period. Funny you think it’s a WoW problem.

This is why MMOs are dead period.
Nobody is finding it novel or trying to build a community and have fun.
People are trying to be the top dog, clap cheeks, flex their e-peen, and subscribe to the latest meta and have other people write the thinkforme.cawm build guides.

It is bizarre how sod is an objectively easier game yet way sweatier than wrath/cata. I honestly blame mega servers.

Based on the sample of sweat and grease that couldn’t handle my thoughts on the state of this game just goes to show it isn’t a social game.

I never said anywhere I want blizzard to do anything.

What I’m saying is the average SoD player isn’t there to have fun or meet people. I was.

WoW is this off color social contract where having a thought outside of meta or something non-wow is viewed as casual and a threat to a raid.

Next to all this, my first 2 hours in Cata were immediately more fun than my last month in SoD combined.

Kinda to conclude since some knuckleheads truly think this is anything more than throwing my hat in the table for sheer bulk of public complaints.

Not having 3-6 alts isn’t main character syndrome. Waking up at 4a to make every raid isn’t main character syndrome. Being a top DPS in your raid group and not commenting on other people’s damage isn’t main character. Jumping in to help new, ignored guildies catch up isn’t main character.

The sour folks in this thread seem to speak like the disabled folks who sit at home and wow is all they have. Sorry, not making 5 alts on a seasonal to be a martyr in some strangers eyes.

Maybe spending a month or 2 guild hopping would be even MORE valuable to my time? Maybe that’s what some of you are suggesting. I have no idea really lol

I’m taking my time elsewhere. I have self-respect as a consumer. I worked 100hrs the last two weeks and still blue parsed ST. This game isn’t fun anymore.

If you’re playing SoD over Cataclysm at this point you just have to accept nostalgia is hitting you a little too hard

Please don’t argue with these two. They’re both on the take, any thread with anything negative they’re gonna slam ya. Him and Z are both either paid shills or so rabid that it’s indistinguishable from being one.

If you want to move on to Cata because it has what you vibe with that’s fine. I’d say the same for quitting or playing any other game.

Based on your posts (this one and others) it doesn’t sound like you were able to find a great fit which meant having less fun. It sounds like you were trying too. So yeah I wouldn’t tell you to stay even if you were in my guild and I had to find a replacement or whatever, I’d wish you the best.

The guy who is saying that “main character” stuff posts rude things all the time and has posted about concerns with the SoD population dropping etc. Make no mistake, he takes people leaving as an affront to what is best for him. That label is projection.

wow literally makes you the main character tho

Hey thanks for the replies! Honestly.

I value people’s experiences in this game. Genuinely. Maybe one day I should raid lead with the right people, maybe that’s where I’m at.

I love what wow can be at it’s very core and I’ve said this many times.

The dopamine from your BiS purples is nothing to scoff at but the meat and potatoes of my favorite WoW experiences are when you drop everything to do something random with people just because they logged in.

I think the Crux of a lot of people’s nostalgia and fun factor is having real life friends to take into wow with you. I just got my SO into Cata and she actually loves it. So now as someone who likes quests to begin with - now we have easily over 100 hours of just content to burn through at our pace.

Valuing each other’s time and not to the point of punishment or shame for mistakes.

Retail does. Vanilla just makes you start off as a peon and end up as a grunt.
