General question - how can I?

One thing I have struggled with in playing is seeing when my target is casting something I need to interrupt.

Right now, most of the time, I have the default UI of the target being in the upper left hand, though sometimes I have moved that to the middle of my screen. But even then, the bar is small enough (especially on the laptop screen) that I struggle to notice if it’s something I can ignore or if it’s something I really need to interrupt.

How can I improve this experience? Can someone suggest what I can do?

Turn on enemy nameplates. Cast bars show up under those.

Do you have name plates on? it makes it really easy to see when an enemy is casting.

I use KUI nameplates, which I think is an out dated addon? But I think any will do the trick.

People use plater addon for better bars on enemy. Not sure if that can help. Theres even settings that will make enemies bar different colors if theyre higher priority for interrupts or cc. I personally use another named kui nameplates as I feel its better set for tanks. Hope that can help

I use an addon called Quartz that makes cast bars as large as I want them to be and I can put them wherever. The uninterruptable ones are easy to see because they have a big shield on them. I place the enemies cast bar in a spot where I can easily see it.

Nameplate addons are a good idea, but I don’t think Plater is where you want to start if you’ve never set something like that up before. Threatplates is definitely more user-friendly. I’m sure there are others, but that’s just the one I use.

Thank you all for the suggestions. I do have nameplates on but it’s been unhelpful. I have plater but haven’t been able to figure out how to make it useful. I’ll take a look at the others and see if they’re a better fit for me.

I really appreciate the quick feedback! Thank you again.

Can you explain? Are you having a hard time seeing them, or recognizing which spells are more important? Or some other problem?

It’s a couple of things. The bar underneath the target is really small (laptop screen). So I then have a hard time recognizing what’s important. If it’s a target I haven’t fought before or not in a while, knowing what’s important is also an issue (and what is interruptable and what’s not…).

It’s not really fun to stare at a small square of my screen where there’s a bar and miss seeing the action, so to speak. Also hard to know to reposition if that’s what I have to do.

Pve: Can’t interrupt gray, only yellow. For non-boss, see what it does then kick it. Did it not do anything? Don’t kick. Did the mob get gigantic shield? kick next time. Did the healer get interrupted? kick next time. Did the tank get nuked for half of his HP? kick next time. As for Bosses I’m noob so I kick everything the boss is casting, every, single, thing.

PVP: Much harder to learn than PVE, but knowing schools of magic and bait-abilities helps.

Ah, I see. Most nameplate addons will let you change the size, thickness, position, and color of castbars. That should go a long way to making them easier for you to see.

As someone else mentioned, there are also independent cast bar addons do to the same thing for you, your target, and your focus. Quartz and AzCastBar are the ones I’m familiar with.

But when it comes to knowing what to kick, that’s just a matter of practice and familiarity. For instance, the Wicked Bolt from those casters in Halls of Atonement can really chunk the tank, but most of the time you’re probably going to want to interrupt Curse of Obliteration instead, if you don’t have someone willing/able to dispel that in your party. It’s just stuff that comes with running the dungeons.
