This is a general question that I've always had when it comes to any sort of gaming controversy. I'm serious here.
Why do you defend a person/company that wants your money?
I've heard theories that it's more of a self defence. Basically, I have given this company my money and i like the product. If they are wrong or the product is bad then that means I am wrong for giving them money and enjoying their product. So I defend them as a way of defending my choices.
Stockholm Syndrome.
Look it up.
Look it up.

You bet me to it.
It’s kinda like people who get upset if you don’t like the same band as them, they take it as a personal attack. Childish, but that’s people for you.
Ultimately, every business wants our money. Really people just disagree if something is bad with the product or not. Some people actually have no standards and will like anything, while others have very rigid standards and will never be happy.

I think it's less about defending the business than it is defending themselves for not being mad. People often struggle reconciling their love of a product with the dodgy business practices behind it. For many it feels hypocritical to say, bash a game for having microtransaction but then still playing the game. So they just don't.
Ultimately there's no right or wrong answer. People have to make their own minds up about any given situation. Consider if they feel like they are getting value for money, or if they find something just that little bit too unconscionable to bear *cough* loot boxes *cough*.
All businesses want your money, if you're insulted by that I would avoid shopping.11/03/2018 03:04 AMPosted by BealuWhy do you defend a person/company that wants your money?
Because some of the attacks against them are an attack on common sense.11/03/2018 03:04 AMPosted by BealuThis is a general question that I've always had when it comes to any sort of gaming controversy. I'm serious here.

No, Blizzard is not intentionally making choices the players seem to hate in an effort to tank their own game because Ion hates puppies and fun.

Why do you defend a person/company that wants your money?
Everyone wants your money. That's beside the point.
Do you like what you get from that company? Are you having fun/enjoying it?
If so, then ask how you would feel if every time you wanted to talk with people who are also using this product, all you hear instead is why it's a terrible product.
That would make you feel a bit confused, foolish perhaps, then irritated, annoyed because you've been insulted due to enjoying something and finally a bit depressed because there are all these downer clowns telling you that you don't really like what you obviously like.
Then they project themselves onto the company you are essentially renting said product from and they say "you think you do but you really don't" yet they themselves are the ones doing that to everyone else.
That's just some of them. Enough to become mind-numbingly boring.
There are people with legit complaints. I don't include them in the above, rambling statement I made because I'm tired.
Any person, group or corporation that offers products or services in return for a fee wants your money, let's get that out of the way first. This isn't just a gamer issue, but it's not like the Serta Mattress Company or AT&T have forums for their customers to discuss those products in, right? Forums are unique to gaming, so if you visit forums often, you will come across this often.
I think for some people, they have put a lot of time & energy into WoW. I know I have & I will be VERY sad when the last day comes & WoW is no more. I hope that's a very long time from now.
However, some of those people REALLY identify with their characters & with the game. I've seen people post about how their entire lives have been shaped by playing WoW, some who wanted to commit suicide but were stopped by game friends &/or guildmates, etc. Personally, I met my husband playing WoW & while he no longer plays, we've been together for over 12 years now & still very happy. For those people, an attack on Blizzard feels like an attack on themselves. By attack, I mean those specific threads where the OP is really nasty toward Blizz &/or Blizz employees. So those players will come back with a vengeance to defend themselves and the game that is so much a part of them.
I have complained when I felt it was legitimate to do so. I have also defended when I felt the complaints were overly dramatic, exaggerated or outrageous. At the end of the day, I do love the game even if I'm not sure I like where it's going at any given moment. I think it's hard for me to play right now because once again the Night Elves got smashed - Shaie was my first character way back in 2005. I fell in love with the quests, the zones, the music. I felt this same apathy in Cata when I saw the first round of devastation to Teldrassil & Darkshore. While I know that I can set time back, it literally feels like a sucker punch to the gut because I would have LOVED to be able to do that after the Cata changes. But I digress... Anyway, I hope that helps a little bit.
