General Feral tips?

I’ve played since wotlk but I’m just now trying out druid and I love feral but it’s pretty overwhelming how many abilities there are. I’m assuming for pve you pretty much just stay cat form right? Also can anyone lead me to a correct guide because I’m not sure what I should use spec wise for leveling or endgame because there’s a lot of different ones.

Start with icy viens. Levelling is a joke, you can heal.

As a new player, create a macro for all your defensives and bear form. I call it “oh crap”. Then when your leveling, pvp or dungeons… any time you get in trouble you just hit 1 button.

self heal macro is another important one, after each finisher you can instant root or heal yourself… just keep spamming heal after a finisher.

But long term you want to keybind each talent or macro them.

youtube has a million. Feral is challenging but fun. He’s a huge multi role spec. Not a tunnel vision one, so it’s challenging.

Two biggest things I stress are:

  1. The spec is not spammy in any way, shape, or form. Trying to play it like Fury or Havoc where you’re hitting buttons off GCD is not going to work. You would ideally play this spec with the baseline 5% haste and be just fine.
  2. Don’t Ferocious Bite until 50 energy. FB costs 5 combo points and 25 energy, but also consumes up to 25 more energy to do more damage. The 25 more energy is almost always worth it.

Don’t suck.

Don’t let the number of abilities discourage you. Feral is currently one of the lowest APM classes for DPS. Most of our abilities are more utility-based, and generally aren’t used in the standard rotation.

There is a form of ‘owlweaving’ that people do, where they will spec balance affinity and spellcast when either there’s downtime in their dps rotation or melee is not possible, typically due to fight mechanics. I personally don’t do this.

Other than that, Jimmy is right, Icy-veins and YouTube are good sources. And once you learn the basic rotation, you should learn to weave in your utility and non-feral skills to optimize your play.

real tip: increase your crit chance to 40%-50% then you really will feel the damage up

Sup Zell - check out Snupy’s youtube page. Lots of guides and he also streams.

Get the prismatic bauble toy and macro it into dash and make nyan cat noises while running circles in oribos. Also this ones a game changer make a cancelform macro and use tigers fury berserk and dash to shapeshift into cat form rly fast. Basically the faster you shift the cooler you are :+1:

One thing to take into consideration, you’re just starting out. Don’t be expecting to duplicate what the people from twitch/discord/youtube are able to do.

Given that, the best take away from this thread so far IMHO is:

It is not a high APM spec. It can be, if built that way, but that also puts you at a disadvantage compared to your other Feral brothers and sisters. A lot of your time will be learning to pool energy (in regards to both pooling energy to 50 to double the power of your Ferocious Bite, and to have enough energy to use 3 different abilities in a 4 GCD window).

Don’t be afraid to take things slow until you understand how it works. Then take the next step. It’s a fun spec with tons of utility (especially as far as melee toons are concerned).

Check in often and ask many questions. Druids are a helpful bunch!
