I think it’s great that Blizzard is putting a gender change option in the barber shop. However unless there is an option to change the name of the character as well it’s going to look funny having the names not match the gender. A male dwarf running around with the name Kissiz would look funny. Fred the female human. Name change needs to be a thing going along with the gender change option.
It really isn’t necessary, though I wouldn’t complain if they did. Most of my names are gender neutral, and the few that aren’t I probably don’t like the opposite gender’s models anyway. This might be the only character that I would consider swapping back and forth on (because I actually enjoy both models), the overwhelming majority will not make use of the function though I appreciate it being added.
unless someone has some real life name like clark or ralph, most names i see i can’t determine a specific gender for
I dont want people to be able to change their name.
It could get annoying keeping track of who is who.
Plus your name would work fine for a woman.
I would argue that 99% of people who think this should come with a name change do not want to play as the opposite sex, but just want a free name change
Name changes on the barber could be really easily abused though. You could go be a royal pain to society then change your name and do it all again with no one ever knowing.
So that’s kind of the problem. Genders are cosmetic and harmless, but names actually have consequences. So it’s better to stay as a paid service, even if it clashes with the free swap.
Name changes are more than cosmetic. Also, women can be named Fred as the shortened version of the name Frederica.
If you’re worried about your Night Elf name not sounding like a girls name, don’t worry.
Night Elves have names that range from Feminine to Unisexual a lot of the time.
